Middleboro, MA – Fall 2009 – The schedule of workshops at Soule Homestead Education Center for September and October 2009: Sat. Sept. 12 - 10am to 2pm - Basket Weaving Join Sue Anderson for a series of progressive beginner weaving projects using round reed techniques. We will complete two projects in this first class: a wicker mat that can be used as a trivet or wall decoration and a small wicker basket that will give the student the basic skills needed to progress to more advanced baskets. Materials and tools are provided. Advanced weavers may bring their own projects and join this class for $10. Please call to register. $20 Member/$25 Non-Member. Chair Seat Weaving Workshops - Tuesdays 7-9 pm Join Sue Anderson on Tuesday evenings as you learn how to restore woven chair seats or repair wicker furniture using natural materials. Bring your own project or purchase one from Soule Homestead (footstools $5, chairs $10, rockers $20). Cane, rush, sea grass, and splint weaving methods are taught using traditional techniques. Books and materials are available for purchase from the instructor. Tools are provided for use. Students may choose to pay-as-you-go, or save by signing up for one or two sessions. Returning basket weavers may join any class to work on their own projects for $5. Please call to register. A follow-up / consultation call from the instructor will confirm your enrollment. Session I – Dates: 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, Session II – Dates: 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17. Per Class Fee:$10 Member / $15 Non-Member, 5 week Session: $40 Member / $60 Non-Member . Sat. Sept. 26 - 9am to 3pm – Quilting Workshop - Join Judy Rolt as she teaches beginners and experienced quilters. Work on your own project or learn a new one. It’s a chance to learn new techniques & skills. The focus at this class will be on pumpkin and ghost wall hangings. Bring a lunch, your own machine and materials or use our materials. $15/members $20 non-members. Sat. Oct. 3 - 10am to 2pm - Basket Weaving Join Sue Anderson to make a “Zuni Wall Basket”. This is a beginner level weaving project using round reed techniques and a variety of natural materials. Students will build upon basic skills used to weave more advanced baskets. Materials and tools are provided. Advanced weavers may bring their own projects. Call to register. $20 Member/$25 Non-Member. Sat. Oct. 3 - 3pm to 5pm - Trash to Treasure Furniture Workshop Our resident seat weaver, Sue Anderson, along with invited guest speaker, Polly Johnson of Plymouth, will take you through the process of bringing an old chair back to life with artistic flair. Samples of colorful and whimsical painting techniques, including “MacKenzie Childs” style makeovers will be discussed, along with alternative methods of re-seating. This is a unique opportunity for “Do-It-Yourselfers” to get inspired by “outside the box” creativity and discover new ways to refurbish old chairs and other furniture. A large selection of chairs will be available for purchase from the barn. $5 members/$8 non-members. Sat. Oct. 3,10 &17 - Rug Braiding - 10:30-12:30 Join Mary Guidoboni for a 3-part workshop as she teaches you the art of hand braided rug making. You will enjoy seeing your old wool blankets, skirts, coats, etc., made into a beautiful braided rug. If you have wool material, bring it, or make a donation and use ours. The one time fee for this 3-part class is $20 Members/$25Non-members. Returning braiders may join any class for $5/week. Please call to register. Sat. Oct. 10 - 10am to 2pm - Basket Weaving Join Sue Anderson to make a “Twining Time Basket”. This is a progressive beginner weaving project using round reed and sea grass techniques. Students will build upon basic skills used to weave more advanced baskets. Materials and tools are provided. Advanced weavers may bring their own projects and join this class for $10. Please call to register. $20 Member/$25 Non-Member. Sat. Oct. 17 - 10am to 12noon - Homemade Laundry Soap Join Kendra Bond & Deb Sellon and make your own laundry soap (liquid or powder) with no petroleum, no chemical fragrance, biodegradable, easy and less expensive to make. You will leave with either a power or liquid laundry soap and instructions on making your own at home. $20 Members/$25 NonMembers Sat. Oct. 31 - 9am to 3pm – Quilting Workshop - Join Judy Rolt as she teaches beginners and experienced quilters. Work on your own project or learn a new one. It’s a chance to learn new techniques & skills. The focus of this class will be on Fall themed projects. Bring a lunch, your own machine and materials or use our materials. $15/members $20 non-members. Sat. Oct. 31 - 10am to 2pm - Basket Weaving Join Sue Anderson to make a “Pumpkin Basket”. This is an intermediate level weaving project using round reed techniques and orange-colored fiber dye. Students will build upon basic skills used to weave more advanced baskets. Materials and tools are provided. Advanced weavers may bring their own projects and join this class for $10. Please call to register. $20 Member/$25 Non-Member.
