Stratification describes the way in which different groups of people are placed within society. The status of people is often determined by how society is stratified - the basis of which can include;  Wealth and income  Social class  Ethnicity  Gender  Political status  Religion (e.g. the caste system in India)

“Stratification” involves some concept of layering (one layer being placed above or below the next- like rock layers), the concept of “Social Stratification” involves the idea that people – either as individuals or, more usually, as groups – can be assigned to different layers ( or levels ) in the society in which they live

A process by which people come to define a group as a race based in part on physical characteristics, but also on historical, cultural (religious) and economic factors Often an ideology constructed by the dominant or majority group which has the power to define itself legally but also to shape a society’s values





It involves the arrangement of social groups in a HIERARCY It involves some concept of INEQUALITY It all depend the way you look the Stratification

Social Stratification plays both good and bad roles in the society. On one hand the gives the feeling of inequality in the society, on other hand it give the concept of Ideology and PowerIdeology, in this respect, involves beliefs about the significance of the teacher-student difference. For example, it might involves certain values, norms, and beliefs

Power, on the other hand, involves the ability to put ideas into practice. Stratification regarding to power is very important in society to maintain the harmony of the society. For example power of applying rules should not be given to each society person , so it is necessary to that hierarchy should be maintained in field so that harmony

secondly, stratification done regarding to the caste is also necessary be cause if all the person should be given the status of Bahramins than who will take care of the other work regarding to the occupation, cleanliness and other work like ruling the country etc. But it should be taken in account that with this distribution we should take care that each person can get equal change so that this stratification does not give the feel of inequality



   

Social Stratification means arrange society into hierarchy in basis of caste, sex, race etc. Concept of the Layering. Can be seen as Hierarchy or Inequality. Gives the concept of Ideology and Power. Necessary to maintain harmony, law and orderin the society.
