Social Organizations Notes Human beings are social creatures who mostly prefer to live in groups As a society, we require order and freedom To get order we: establish norms and values to regulate human behavior Freedom: the right to live one’s life according to one’s conscience The more ordered things are, the more organization that exists. The more organization that exists, the less freedom that exists. Social Organization: a tension that exists between the needs and wants of individuals and the needs and wants of the larger society Because individuals must interact with others within a society, there must be systems which exist for the procreation of life, making decisions, producing goods, creating meaning and purpose, and organizing people into orderly society. All social organizations have as one of their major purposes the organization of people so that the objective of society can be accomplished. Thus, social organizations provide for the needs and wants of people, provide them with meaning and purpose and give them direction and discipline Some examples: Family, Church, Teams, School, Government
