SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP DIARY Social Entrepreneurship Development Workshop at CIPS, Jaipur (28 March and 29 March 2009) BY: DR. T.K. JAIN (Management consultant), Chief Mentor AFTERSCHO☺OL
Prof. J.P. Sharma and team has set up CIPS (Centurian Institute of Professional Studies) at Jaipur. In a short period of time, this institute has come up as a centre of excellence. This institute is known for its rigour, quality of education and its academic pursuits. Prof. Raghubir Singh, the director of this institute has given this institute the direction that it required. The institute has already conducted three Faculty Development Programmes and two workshops on social entrepreneurship. AFTERSCHO☻OL conducted a two day workshop on social entrepreneurship at CIPS. There were 75 participants (from MBA 2nd semester and 4th semester). The details of the sessions were as under : Ist session : 28 March 2009 (10.00 am to 2.00 pm) 1. introduction to the concept of social entreprenuership 2. introduction to business planning 3. introduction to case study method of teaching 2ND SESSION: 28 March 2009 (2.45 pm to 5.45 pm with a brek at 4.00 pm) 1. business planning exercises 2. group discussions on social issues and social problems 3. business plan formulation – initial exercises MEDITATION SESSION (8.00 am to 9 am on 29 March 2009) Attended by all the participants – this meditation session was specially designed as a training tool for social entrepreneurship. At the end of the session, each participant felt relaxed, lighter and focussed.

3rd SESSION : 29 March 2009 (9.00 am to 2 pm with break at 11.00 am) 1. business plan presentation 2. critical evaluation of business plans by entrepreneurs 3. further guidance on business plan formulation and idea generation 4. interaction with social entrepreneur Mr. N.K. Choudhary 5. distribution of best social entrepreneurship business plan award by social entrepreneur Mr. N.K. Choudhary (Jaipur Rugs) th 4 SESSION : 29 March 2009 (2.45 pm to 5.45 pm with a break at 4 pm) 1. comprehensive case discussion on case study of Ajit Foundation 2. comprehensive case discussion on case study of Vidya Kunj 3. guidance on case discussions by Dr. T.K. Jain 4. informal discussion The workshop on social entreperneurship was like a new dawn for many students. They were excited about the workshop and they worked very hard on the assignents given in the workshop. The participants had sleepless night on 28 April (after a busy day) – as they had to prepare a business plan for social development and present it the next day morning. The participants were thankful to the AFTERSCHO☻OL for having conducted the workshop. Feedback received from some of the participants is presented below : Mr. Amit Chouhan (student of 2nd semester): “this workhop was a great learning occasion for all of us. I re-explored and re-discovered myself during this workshop. The case study discussion was extremely stimulating. I wish to attend many more such sessions.”
