1. Divide your waist measurement by 6 and then add 1. (Example: for a 30” waist, divide by 6 to get 5” and add 1 to get 6”). Lay the t-shirts flat and cut a 24” (slightly trapezoidal) strip from each one, using the measurement above for the width of the top of the strip. The width of the bottom of each strip should be 1 ½” wider than the top.
2. Arrange the strips next to each other in the order you’d like them to appear and pin them together along the long edges (right sides together).
3. Sew along the pinned edges ½” from the edges. Remove the pins and turn the skirt right side out. 4. Measure 4 ½” from the bottom of one of the remnants and cut a strip through both layers. Trim the strip until it is 1” longer than your waist measurement. 5. Sew the ends of the strip together (right sides together) ½” from the edge.
6. Fold the top edge of the tube down to meet the bottom, wrong sides together. You should have a double layer tube about 2 ¼” wide.
7. Place the tube around the outside top of the skirt, lining up the unfinished edges with the top of the skirt. Pin in place.
8. Sew along the pinned edges, close to the edge, using a zigzag stitch. Remove the pins. 9. Done!
