Simple short row cardigan Sizes : S – M – L – Or what ever size you like - Araucania Nature Wool Solids 3-4 skeins - Garter Stitch : knit every row - Increase: Kf&b Needle: 5 mm (US 8) The measurements indicated are in Centimeters The cardigan is worked in one piece in garter stitch and short rows. It is worked starting at the left and worked to the right .The great thing is that you can keep trying the piece on to make sure it fits perfectly. So use the measurements as a guide not a rule. You can add button holes , work the front to fasten to the center or side ( as I did). Cast on stitches at the arms for a longer sleeve. It can be lengthened, shortened or made to fit a child. Starting with the left front and using US 8/ 5 mm needles, cast on loosely 94(S) – 98(M) – 102(L) sts and knit 2 rows in garter st. Start making short rows as follows: Row 1 (RS): K 79 – 83 – 87 sts but leaving 15 sts on the left needle. The 15 sts will become the neckline. Turn your work round. This is the beginning of Row 2 (WS). Row 2 (WS) The first st, kf&b. You will have made an increase. Continue knitting the other sts to end. Turn work. Row 3 (RS): K the 80th - 84th - 88th st together with the first st on the left needle (15st). K to end. Turn work. Row 4 (WS) K 94 – 98 – 102 sts to end. Repeat rows 1 – 4 until it measures 25 – 26 – 27 cm from cast on edge. TRY IT ON! Make sure it’s the fit you want! Begin left sleeve: K 57 – 59 – 61 sts and place these sts onto a stitch holder. Knit short rows on the other 37 – 39 – 41 sts which is the start of left sleeve as follows: Row 1 (RS) K 22 -24 – 26 sts leaving 15 sts on the left needle. Turn, this is the beginning of Row 2(WS) of work. Row 2 (WS) The first st, kf&b. You will have made an increase. K23 – 25 – 27 sts. Turn work.

Row 3(RS) K 23rd -25th – 27th st. together with the first st on the left needle (15st). K to end. Turnwork. Total sts 37 – 39 – 41sts Row 4 (WS) K 37 – 39 – 41 sts to end. Repeat Rows 1 – 4 until sleeve measures 21 – 22 – 23 cm (measure from the start of the sleeve). TRY IT ON! Make sure it’s the fit you want! Fold the sleeve and transfer the 55 – 57 -59 sts back onto the needle. You will have 94 -98 -102 sts. K to the end. Begin back section. Continue knitting and working in short rows until back measures 45 – 47 – 49 cm from where you started the back. TRY IT ON! Make sure it’s the fit you want! Make the second sleeve - follow the instructions as for the first sleeve. Once you have all the 90 – 94 – 98 sts back onto one needle, K until work matches the measurements for left side OR continue across for the asymmetrical closure. This will be your right side of cardigan. Don’t forget to add button holes if you want them and TRY IT ON! Make sure it’s the fit you want! Finally knit 2 rows in garter st. Cast off loosely.
