Acts of the 7th European Assembly of Lay Dominican Fraternities Annex VIa
The S.H.O.P. project at Fanjeaux, France Sister Historians of the Order of Preachers
When and where?
This project began on June 1st 2007 in Fanjeaux – where else could it be than in the steps of Dominic?
rue des Fargues, 11270 Fanjeaux
This is the new home of the S.H.O.P. project – a light, airy building, overlooking the market place of the medieval village.
Who are the members of the S.H.O.P. group?
Sisters and lay Dominicans from around the world who are interested in their own and each other’s history, and in sharing with others the fruit of their reflection.
What is the project? A library dedicated to the history of Dominican women.
Dominican women from all branches of the Order
Dominican women from all periods of history
Dominican women from all parts of the globe
Is it only a library? No, much more besides: a place for Dominican women to be at home in the village where Dominic lived and preached. It is informal, with 3 study bedrooms, and a kitchen for self-catering. Ideal for sabbatical breaks, study, repose and reflection.
The Jubilee Year
The 800th anniversary of the beginning of the first community of Dominican women at Prouilhe is surely an ideal moment to begin such a project. Your support is needed to make it a lasting memorial to those centuries of heroic women who preceded us in the Order of Preachers. What better time than now to plan a visit – from a few days to several months.
Could you be a patron of S.H.O.P.?
It costs about 700 euros a month to run the facility in Fanjeaux. Could you sign up for one month of the year? Benefactors have priority use of facilities at reduced rates.
