Shipbuilding Engineers / Naval Architect

The company: The company is the biggest shipbuilding company in The Netherlands and one of the biggest in the world. It has more than 2.100 employees and 18 operating companies all over The Netherlands The shipbuilding activities include a wide range of products, such as tugs, workboats, patrol craft, cargo vessels, dredgers and even mega yachts and fast ferries. Product design and engineering are carried out in-house and a broad range of designs is available. Department: Central engineering Job title: Shipbuilding Engineer The department: The department central engineering (CE) consists of five product-group related drawing groups, department Standata, repro department and the a secretary. CE is responsible for completion and control of engineering of ship types of the product groups Tugs & Workboats (T&W), High speed & Naval Crafts (HSNC), Offshore & Transport (O&T),fast ferries (FF) AND Cargo vessels (DSCV). Under engineering one can understand the following: producing drawings, doing the technical calculations, making the technical specifications and building instructions. This for both shipbuilding engineering part (hull, building, stability etc.) and mechanical engineering part (installation, piping, etc.). CE is responsible for designing and the basic engineering of already existing- and new ship types. The department also coordinates and checks the detail engineering of the third parties which do some engineering work for them (sub contractors).

Every draw group consists of both shipbuilding- and mechanical engineers. The department Standata produces and manages the standardized data in the form of manuals. It is the technical library. The Repro department is responsible for the printing of drawings, procedures etc. The secretary is responsible for distribution of drawings in both hard- and soft copy. The Engineer receives mostly the tasks from the project leader CE. For further information the Engineers will approach the project leader/manager. During the work the engineer will have to do with consulting and checking divers norms and regulations/laws in the technical field and with regard to safety issues. The engineer will have a lot to do with contacting external parties such as subsidiaries, build shipyards and engineering bureaus. The nature of contact will mostly be exchanging information mostly to do with detail drawings. Reports to: Direct manager engineering group. Purpose of the function: Work out specifications and making of drawings for new and standard ships in the field of shipbuilding engineering. This will be done within the framework of project plans and must meet the required criteria, rules and (government) regulations.

Some further detailed job description

*With regard to worked out designing and drawings: -Drawing up construction plans and producing of work- and detail drawings according to the general plan, procedures and directions of project leader and project managers of production (the product group). -Judging of general plan en procedures in relation with the rules and regulations. -Adjusting of the line plans due to changing. -Making of construction drawings for divers components/accessories. -Determining the size and the exact location of components/accessories according to (inter)national rules and regulations, class and purpose of components. -Drawing up of safety plan, determining of needed safety means and the location of it (taking the rules and regulation in consideration).

*With regard to worked out constructions and drawings: -making of constructions and divisions- and drawings of accommodations, cover plan, motor foundation, ventilation systems etc taking the interaction between divers systems and their fittings into consideration.

*With regard to executed calculations: -Calculating the load/stress of the ship. -Calculating of line plans due to the stability. -Calculating of construction according to type of procedures and shaping. -Setting up and working out of the weld list, taking the shape and shrinking of steel into consideration.

*With regard to setting up lists: -Producing order list and setting up technical specifications for purchasing, according to plans.

*With regard to respecting internal rules: -Following the corporate rules and regulations with regard to quality, safety and environment.

*Software knowledge: The candidates MUST have experience with AUTO CAD software. *Sex: Man / Woman *Salary: Monthly gross salary of € 2.000/*Education: Bachelor - / Master Degree in shipbuilding education. *Experience: NOT required. If one have indeed experience, it is of course better. *Hours per week: 40 *Place of work: Different places all over Holland. *Duration of the job: NOT temporary.
