SESSION 1 COMPUTER HARDWARE 1. The data in the computer travels on paths called buses 2. The three types of buses found in the computer are data, control and expansion bus 3. Ports are access point for the entry and exit of data 4. A serial port is also called a RS-232 port 5. The Centronics port is called a printer port 6. Parallel port allow faster processing by using multiple processors and superior technology and are used for complex tasks which require a lot of computational power 7. Digital computer process information using numbers which is essentially in a binary or a two state format 8. Memory is essentially divided into primary and secondary memory 9. RAM memory is volatile in nature 10. The features of analog and digital machines are combined to create a hybrid computing system COMPUTER SOFTWARE 1. Program is a set of instructions that have to be written for the computer that it is able to process data to give the desired information. 2. Software is a set of instructions that are given to the computer, which help the computer to process data and give information. 3. User-friendly software is a software which is easy to use and requires minimum learning 4. An application is a related set of tasks 5. The three types of files are data, program and text file 6. Games, publishing, painting and drawing, and telecommunications are examples of application software
7. Housekeeping in computers refers to maintaining of the computer hardware, the computer software and the data. 8. Computer languages have to be translated to communicate even with the computer. 9. Microsoft is headed by Mr William Gates, more popular called Bill Gates. 10. The computer understands only 0s and 1s. 11.
