A New Look for the Cloverpatch The Cloverpatch is an important communication link for members, parents, leaders and others within our communities. We have made some changes to keep up with postal service and budget changes and will be placing additional information at our website, http:// www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/rock/4h/index.html, or referring you to the Wisconsin 4-H website, http://www.uwex.edu/ces/4h/. Club News from Badger 4-H Badger 4-H is proud to announce that our Music and Drama Group performed at State Fair and received Merit Awards for their outstanding work in the play. Also, thank you to all who watched our play at the Rock County Fair. Congratulations to our actors and actresses! This year our Youth Leadership project members participated in the county-wide Youth Leadership contest and we took third place. We also entered our DVD, which describes our New Family Mentoring Program, in the fair and received the trophy. Congratulations to all who participated! August was a busy month for our club. We held a lock-in at Camp Rotamer. Everyone had lots of fun toasting marshmallows, eating s'mores and playing games around the campfire. We held a Record Book Workshop to help our new members with their record books and instead of our regular meeting we had a Club Picnic in Palmer Park. Also in August our club helped with sorting, counting and packing school supplies into backpacks for ECHO. The backpacks go to the less fortunate in our community. Thank you to everyone who helped or donated school supplies! Lizzy Farrey, Badger 4-H Reporter/Photographer

Wanted 4-H Youth and Adults The 4-H After School Program is a much sought out extra curricular offering by schools. The local schools see the benefits of “hands-on learning” that 4-H has used for over 100 years. This year Rock County 4-H is expanding its 4-H After-school Program. We will still be in four elementary schools in Beloit, Edison Middle School in Janesville and our newest program will be at the J.C. McKenna Middle School in Evansville. This year because of gracious grants from Metlife and Walmart, the 4-H After-school program will be emphasizing Healtly Life Styles, Citizenship, along with enrichment classes. One of the reasons why the Rock County 4-H After-school program has been so successful is the great volunteers that have donated their time to help lead projects. In the past youth leaders who volunteered found that the after school program gave them a great opportunity to share their interests and talents with a new audience. In return they have taken their after

school experience and turned it into their youth leadership project that has been highly praised when they present them at fair or as part of their member evaluation forms. 4-H members who are educational majors discovered the after-school experience helped them shape their career goals and gave them experience that other students did not have. Adults who have volunteered found that this gave them a different perspective of what 4-H is and the impact it can have on a young person’s life.

Make this a family outing...rooms at Chula Vista are $129 per night for November 20 or 21. Rooms can be reserved until October 21. Contact Chula Vista at 800-3884782 for additional information. Mark your calendars and save the date. Recruit your friends and join the fun. The flyer and registration form is available at http:// www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/rock/4h/index.html or the UWEX Office.

There are opportunities for short term and long term volunteers. If you are interested in this opportunity of sharing your talents and interests, please call Donna Duerst, Rock County Youth Development Agent or Sally Reisem, AmeriCorps Vista, at 757-5690. Informational and planning meetings are being formed now that you will not want to miss.

WSVH 4-H Club The WI School for the Visually Handicapped (WSVH) Club is looking for youth and adults to help make their program even better. Many of the members need or could benefit from one on one assistance and that is where you could make the difference in the life of another 4-Her. Meetings are 1-1½ hours on the first and third Tuesday of most months depending on holidays and school breaks. The actual meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. but volunteers are asked to come at 6:30 p.m. to get instructions on the project of the evening.

4-H Bakery Tent and Awareness Center at the Fair A very big THANK YOU to all 4-H mem-

bers, leaders and parents who helped make the 4-H Bakery Tent and Awareness Center such a success at this year’s county fair! Once again, the sale of Old Fashion Bakery cream puffs and éclairs, as well as Pepsi products, resulted in several thousand dollars profit for Rock County 4-H. In addition, hundreds of fairgoers received information about the 4-H program and many youth had their faces painted thanks to the efforts of everyone who staffed the 4-H Awareness Tent. A special thanks goes to Daryl Hansen, Kathy Heider and Brenda Risseeuw who worked tirelessly to manage the Bakery Tent, the product and finances, and to our AmeriCorps VISTA, Sally Reisem, for coordinating the Awareness Tent. It was another VERY successful county fair, thanks to EVERYONE who helped out in either tent!

HeatWave is looking for new members!

Whether you sing or dance or you would like to learn, HeatWave is looking for you. HeatWave is Rock County’s 4-H show choir and it is almost time to sign up for the 2010 season.

Do you like to entertain? Do you enjoy applause? Are you looking for leadership opportunities? Do you want to learn about staging a show or how to choreograph? Are you interested in making new friends? These opportunities and more are available in HeatWave. HeatWave does not hold auditions. The group is open to anyone enrolled in the Rock County 4-H program who is at least 13 years old or older as of January 2009. Members need to have a willingness to learn; need to be enthusiastic and cooperative; and must be responsible and committed to hard work. Current HeatWave members have until October 15 to register their intention to be a part of HeatWave to insure membership for the coming year. This must be done in writing! Current members may still register after that date but they will be accepted in the same manner as new members at that time. New member registrations MUST BE MAILED ON OR AFTER October 15 and ON OR BEFORE December 1. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. The order will be determined by postmark. The size of the group is limited to 40 members. If the quota is reached, those registering last will be placed on a waiting list. All who register will be contacted in mid-December to confirm membership. Rehearsals will begin in early January and will probably be held every Saturday through March, with one or two exceptions, and in April and May as needed. Attendance and other requirements, costume costs, etc. will be discussed at the first meeting. For more information call Janet Kassel at 876-6311 or visit our website at www.heatwave4hshowchoir.org
