All too often we hear people say that there simply aren’t enough opportunities in a Parish for ongoing adult education in the Catholic faith. How blessed we are, because here at St. Stephen’s that’s not the case. We are beginning our very popular “Why Catholic?” program which is conducted by a variety of people at various times during the week. Information is available after all the Masses today. Or you can see Danny Judd for additional help. We also have our Adult Bible Study class conducted by Sister Rita on Thursday nights. During these sessions, students get a preview of the Gospel for the upcoming week; they have an opportunity to reflect on and discuss the meaning of the selection. Of course, our Men’s Prayer group continues to meet on Saturday mornings after the 8:30 Mass. Not only do the men pray together, but they conduct an in-depth Scripture study with the assistance of our Deacons. And for those who are not fully initiated into the faith, we have the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program, led by Sister Rita and a team of lay people who prepare the candidates to receive sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Father Alex is now beginning a Friday evening Faith Study Class, which will cover an extremely wide number of theological topics. Further details will be found periodically in our Church bulletin. As you can see, there is a great variety of offerings, led by a large number of people on different days and evenings. We are hoping that with so much from which to select, those who want to continue their Catholic education will find at least one program to suit their schedule and interests. Watch the bulletin for on-going information on all these wonderful programs for adults. God bless you, Father Richard
FAITH STUDY CLASS ^
We are starting a Faith Study Class at St. Stephen’s Church in Kearny. This includes a basic understanding of God and His attributes, the Trinity, Jesus, His divine and human personality, the Church and its Sacraments, the Doctrine of the Last Things, Mariology, the Study of World Religions, Apologetics, and the Bible. The process of our faith study involves group work, research, discussion, debates and lectures. Anyone who is interested to join our Faith Study Group can contact Fr. Vocation Reflection ^ Living out the call to holiness is not always easy. Even the most saintly Christians live with daily temptations to turn away from what is good and do evil. This does not change the fact that God desires to draw us all to Himself. We allow ourselves to be drawn closer to Him by properly discerning our vocations to love and serve God and each other. Some of us embrace the good by listening to the call to become priests, religious sisters or brothers or deacons. If you feel this might be the way God is drawing you to live out your vocation to holiness, then contact the Office of Vocations at 973-497-4365 or email
