CAD/CAM It is a technology concerned with the use of digital computers to perform certain function in digital computer to perform certain function in designing and production. This technology is growing indirection of greater integration of designing and manufacturing with have traditionally being treated as distinct & separate function in a production firm.

Dig:- The general design process as defined by Shigley[15]

CAD CAD means a design process using sophisticated computer graphics, backed with computer software packages to aid analysis and costing associated with design work.

PHASES OF CAD • • • • •

Geometrical modeling. Engineering analysis. Design review. Evaluation. Automated drafting & presentation.

GEOMETRICAL MODELLING It is a model of a product by which we come to know about the geometrical of product.

ENGINEERING ANALYSIS Depending upon the application of product, the product is analyzed before it actually manufactured for stress, strain etc.

DESIGN REVIEW Once a design is made and in future it is requires some modification in same design then no need to go for a new design from scratch. We can review the previous design.

EVALUATION Cost of the product is before it is manufacturing.

AUTOMATED DRAFTING AND PRESENTATION Once the design is made, it is represented on a drawing sheet. So that it can be understood by everyone from design engineer to operator. So to manufacture it.

(Dig: model design by CAD software)

BENEFITS OF CAD Faster rate of production drawing. Greater accuracy of drawing. Neater drawing. No repetition of drawing. Special drafting techniques not available in conventional drafting.  Quicker design calculation and analysis with a given input or charge in input.  Integration of design with other disciplines.     

CAD COMPUTERS    

INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES FOR CAD INPUT DEVICES : : OUTPUT DEVICES • LCD Light(liquid pen crystal display) printers •• Laser Joysticks • Inkjet printer • Mouse • Dot-matrix printer • Trackball • Plotters • Tablet

CAM CAM is basically known as computer aided manufacturing. The machining of a part is fully control by computer system. When irregular shape or complex profile is needed to be machined and this is not possible by manually are machined with the help of CAM.

BENEFITS OF CAM • • • • • •

Higher production rate with lower work force. Less likelihood of human error. Increase in manufacturing efficiency Repeatability of production process via storage of data Analysis of deficiency to take correct measure Better production control
