How the Auction Works Each auction item will go to the highest winning bid. For group packages such as dinners and trips, the winning bid can come from an individual or a group. The highest per person bids will win. There will be 2 rounds of bidding for silent auction items (Round 1 closes at 9:00PM, Round 2 closes at 10:00 PM). If you do not win what you want the first time, you can try to get something similar in the next round! Silent auction items can be bid upon in increments of $5. Minimum bids are listed on each item’s bid sheet. Items numbered 101-151 are in Round 1. Items numbered 201-257 are in Round 2. Winning bidders should bring their donations to class on Tuesday April 27th. Please make all checks out to “HBS Class of 2005, Section E” NOTE: The auction committee reserves the right to pull a silent item into live bidding. Just a reminder…HAVE FUN TONIGHT! It’s ALL FOR CHARITY!!!

Proceeds will be donated to the following causes: HORIZONS FOR HOMELESS CHILDREN: This organization works to improve the lives of homeless children and their families. It provides homeless children in Massachusetts with the nurturing, stimulation and opportunities for early education and play that all children need to learn and grow in healthy ways. JUMPSTART: This organization’s mission is to engage young people in service to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. Jumpstart improves the quality of early childhood education and promotes school success by recruiting and training college students to work one-to-one with struggling preschoolers to develop language, literacy, and social skills. ROXBURY PREP CHARTER SCHOOL: This organization’s mission is to prepare its 180 students in 6th-8th grade to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college. Despite overwhelming odds, Roxbury Prep’s academic program allows underprivileged students the ability to score advanced or proficient at a higher rate than students across the state, effectively proving that the “achievement gap” can be closed. SMIITH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY: This organization’s mission is to develop high-achieving students of good character who use problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills to inspire others and to catalyze educational, economic, and political advancement within their communities and the broader nation. SUMMER SEARCH: This Boston-based organization aims to build character and leadership in low-income high school students by providing scholarships for summer experiential education programs and ongoing mentoring. Summer Search offers students the chance to step out of their environments, expand their horizons, and change their future.

Arts & Culture ITEM #101: INSIDE THE HBS SHOW. Don't understand what Karen has been shouting about for the last two months? It is the HBS Show, and this is your chance to see what really goes on behind the curtain. Cindy will provide you with a backstage pass and tour for the HBS show this Friday or Saturday. ITEM #102: SEE THE MAGIC KINGDOM. Remember Micky and Pluto and that great Strat case? Well, now you can relive the magic. Mani has donated a one day pass to Disneyland or Disneyworld. ITEM # 106: MAGIC HANDS OF KIAN. Relieve the stress of finals. Package of 3 1-hr head and shoulder massages by our certified massage therapist Kian. ITEM # 107: WHEELS FOR RENT. Bartek has donated the use of his car for one day to a section mate. It is a manual transmission VW Jetta, so ability to shift gears is essential. Alternatively, Bartek can be a chauffeur for one evening for partying. ITEM # 108: MIX-MASTER SERVICE. Ryan will make 2 personalized mixed CDs to suit your style. You can choose what songs you want or enlist Ryan’s expert advice to put together a song list (hip hop, of course, is his specialty but anything goes – 80s, jazz, international, etc). ITEM # 109: SMOOTH RIDE. Want to be smooth like Louis? Learn how with a car ride to and from the grocery store. He may even show you how to pick up women at the store. ITEM # 110: PERSONAL ASSISTANT FOR A WEEK. Jeremy offers to be someone’s personal assistant for a week. This service includes but is not limited to being a driver, picking up mail/packages, writing correspondence, picking up groceries/lunch/dinner, procuring/doing case write-ups, running errands, burning music, buying gifts, booking flights, general research, etc… Which week is at the discretion of the highest bidder, as long as it’s outside finals week.

Jay and his fiancée Jamie have donated a brand new DeLonghi Indoor Grill (MSRP $130). Don’t ask how he got, it is sort of like Old School. ITEM #114: PERUVIAN LUXURY. Fabiola has donated a handmade Peruvian rug made from fine 100% Alpaca fur. It is the softest fur available. Color: White, cream, brown. Size: 1.2m x 1.4m (4ft x 4.5ft) Availability: as soon as somebody comes from Peru (probably June) ITEM #115: LEADERSHIP NYC-STYLE. Learn to be a leader from one of the best. One autographed copy of "Leadership" by Rudy Giuliani has been donated by Pialy. ITEM #116: RED SOX MEMORABILIA. Damaune has offered up an autographed Jim Rice Baseball. Jim played sixteen major league seasons for the Sox, making the All-Star Team eight times, and winning the American League M.V.P. in 1978. He batted .298 lifetime with 382 homeruns.

EntertainmEnt ITEM #117: LIVE LIKE A RAPPER. You have seen it on "Cribs," now have it in your place. Dan has donated a week with his Plasma TV. Delivered and set up at whoever’s place (OWA / SFP) if they’ve got the right audio equipment / cable box or they can use it his place and Dan will provide Beer and Snackie Poos. Think of the impact it will have on the ladies... ITEM # 118: LET’S BOWL! Think you can beat Big Labowski’s? Do you enjoy wearing rented shoes? Then, this is the item for you.

John will treat the winner of this item (and 2 friends) to 2 hours of bowling. 10 pin or Candle Pin. Lane fees and shoe rental included.

Teach me “how to”… ITEM #119: INTRODUCTORY TOURIST LESSONS. Failed picking up the hot local in Brazil. Maria may be able to help you. She will provide 5 lessons in Spanish or Portuguese. At the end you will know enough to get around, find the bathroom, etc. ITEM # 120: LATIN RHYTHM. Want to wow the ladies or men? Manu will teach you how. More specifically he will provide an introductory Tango lesson for 1. He promises not to fire you if you are bad. ITEM #121: DRESS LIKE A BRIT. Tired of the same old boring look? Want to pick up ladies in the section. Then Nick is your man. Nick will take you out to his favorite stores and give you help picking out a trendier wardrobe. Good for one person. ITEM # 122: TENNIS LESSONS. Is tennis your game? Are you longing to become the next Andy Roddick? If so, let Reid, former Yale #1, can help you polish your skills. He will provide 2 one-hour tennis lessons just for you (private or group format). ITEM #123: LERAN TO KICK ASS. Rita will provide 2 hours of judo lessons including a deluxe exer-tube that can be used to practice throws on your own. An exer-tube is a maximum resistance rubber tube with padded handles that can be used as resistance for a number of strength training exercises or can be used to practice judo throws you pretend the ends of the tube are your partners' lapels - hard to describe, but is standard individual practice material for judokas. The tube is great for fitness fanatics who're stranded in hotel rooms without their gym equipment - it's amazingly versatile and you can do practically all the major weight-training exercises with it.

ITEM # 124: KAYAK THE CHARLES. Ready for the whitewater adventure? Experienced kayaker, Dena, will provide you with a 2-hr kayaking lesson on the Charles River. Just don’t drink the water. ITEM # 125: DRINK BETTER. Judd will provide beer lessons, with tasting of at least 6 or 7 different beers. Great for those who have always thought about things like: Why is it called India Pale Ale if it’s not from India, not pale, and rarely an ale? And what is the different between ale and lager, anyway? ITEM # 126: LEARN TO DRIVE LIKE AN INDY RACER. Brigitte will teach the skill of driving really fast around sharp curves. This may prove useful in escaping angry spouses or cops in Brazil. Learn the basics of racing a car (includes learning how to drive a stick shift if necessary). This would be great training for Chris H.’s go-kart racing donation.

Sports ITEM # 127: PERSONAL CADDY. Free caddying by Garth for two rounds of golf. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning to play golf to learn some of the finer points of game (golf etiquette and rules) from an experienced hacker like Garth. A caddy typically costs but they do not share their trade secrets. If you don’t have clubs I can throw in a set of clubs for a round. “Round of golf $40. Food and drinks at half way house $10. Feeling like Tiger Woods for a day priceless!!” ITEM # 128: BIKE TOUR OF BOSTON. See and learn about the area around Boston at a slower pace than from your Zipcar. Stewart has donated a guided bike tour of the historical sites around Boston. Winner(s) gets to set the final itinerary, but possible stops include Walden Pond, historic Lexington and Concord, and the area’s finest ice cream shops. Bid per person. Top three bids win. Bicycles not included, but section mates have offered to provide if there is a need.

ITEM # 129: WORKOUT BUDDY. Swimsuit season is almost here! Need to hit the gym but lack the motivation? Mandissa will be that motivation. She’ll get you up for a 6am run. More of a night owl? You can hit the gym at 9pm. You just let her know where/when you’d like to workout and she will be there. Good for now until the end of the semester (with the exception of the long weekend).

Travel & Tours ITEM # 130: HYATT REGENCY BOSTON RETREAT. Chris W. has worked his magic twice. This first item makes a wonderful escape for a romantic weekend or a great place to put the in-laws. It is two nights at the Hyatt Regency Boston located in the Boston Financial District. It is for room and tax only, subject to availability and valid from April 22 to October 22, 2004. Typical rate is over $200/night. ITEM #131: APPLE PICKING IN THE FALL. Join David with up to 2 other guests for a ride in the Shush-mobile out to the apple picking location of your choice (or leave it to him to decide). You can choose a mutually convenient date. Included in the package is a bag of apples (picked by you!), warm apple cider, and cider donuts! ITEM # 132: VISIT DRACULA’S COUNTRY. Free 3-day tour of Cristina’s Romania and its famous region, including a trip to Dracula’s castle. Accommodation, food and ground transportation included. Flight is not covered, but Cristina can pick you up in Budapest, show you around the city for a day and then take you to Romania for the 3day tour. The trip is valid for this summer (after August 13), next summer (you will have to work something out) or any summer thereafter (recognizing, however, that once she starts working full-time it might be harder to coordinate). It can be for one or two people. ITEM # 133: LIVE LARGE IN NYC. Robb has donated his parent’s apartment in New York City for any weekend (but July 4th weekend), this summer. The apartment is a really nice 1 bedroom apartment on 72nd and York (1st avenue), overlooking the East River. 6

You can have it for a 4 night weekend (Thursday through Sunday nights).

ITEM # 134: BOSTON DOESNT SUCK. It doesn’t. We understand how many of you from tropical climates stuck here in the most isolated part of this magnificent city during a particularly cold and long winter and forced to read 3 cases a day might believe that Boston sucks. But you’re wrong, and Indy, Hilary, Bram and Aviva would like to show you and 3 friends how wrong you are. The opportunities for a sunny day in May are many, with few guarantees but one – we’ll show you a great time ‘round Beantown. We’ll act as your transportation and educated tour guides for a day this spring or early summer. Two potential itineraries:

ITEM # 137 SEE SHANGHAI IN THE SUMMER. Kian has donated a half day sightseeing tour of Shanghai during June 2004. See firsthand why China is the “Next Big Thing.”

Just out of town: • Walden Pond – Take a swim and wander the trails beside the sparkling pond that inspired Thoureau. Lexington. • Colonial Inn--Sunday Brunch or Afternoon Tea: Homemade scones, berries, and sweet cream just like Paul Revere used to like it…. • DeCordova – Outdoor interactive sculpture park. Lexington. Deep in the city: • Elizabeth Gardner Museum – Classical artistic magnificence surrounding a courtyard garden of great beauty. Boston. This place is amazing for art lovers. • Freedom Trail – Follow the red brick line, through many of the neighborhoods you don’t yet know, and Boston’s most famous historical landmarks. • Dinner at Figs – great pizza and entrees at this bistro in the heart of Beacon Hill. • Top of the Hub—Drink in the skyline view of Boston from the lounge on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Tower

There’s a lot more available, and we’ll be happy to change the itinerary based on your interests. Sorry, but expenses are not included in the package. ITEM # 135: DAY ON THE CAPE WITH A BAKER. Spend the day on Cape Cod with Professor Baker. Enjoy the sunshine and sand with a late lunch or early dinner. Good for up to 6 people. ITEM # 136: NEW ENGLAND FOLIAGE TRIP. Brian Sampson has offered a wonderful trip for one couple. Transportation in my

Eat, Drink & Be Merry ITEM # 138: SOUTHERN COOKING. Good old boy, Geremy Connor has donated a South Carolina Lowcountry Meal for 2 It should be a fun mix between seafood and soul food, a la the great restaurants of Charleston, Magnolia’s and Peninsula Grill. This is gourmet Southern (yes, that is a real category of food), and some high-end moonshine. ITEM # 139: INDIAN DINNER FOR 2. Ravi will cook an authentic Indian dinner for two. This can serve as a great introduction to Indian cuisine. ITEM # 140: ELEGANT DINNER FOR 2. Want to impress a date or get out of the dog house? This donation is for you. Anjali has donated dinner for 2 at Harvest in the Charles Hotel (bill up to $80). ITEM # 141: DINNER WITH RAKESH. Miss out on those Rakesh dinners in the first term? Didn't get enough? Here is your chance to rectify the problem. Rakesh has donated a dinner for four at his home. Discuss mission statements and Jan Carlzon over a home-cooked meal with Rakesh and his family. ITEM # 142: BGIE DINNER. Regina will host a wonderful dinner for 6. The dinner can be any day after the last day of classes and she promises that the food will be delicious! You can discuss country development strategies or how to run an underground piracy ring. ITEM # 143: ITALIAN DINNER FOR FOUR. You can spend a night talking about peaks and valleys and Ferraris with Professor 7

Gavetti. He promises a dinner of homemade risotto + other Italian specialties. ITEM # 144: ARGENTINE BBQ FOR 10. You have heard about the country for 9 months now, now experience the food. Aril, Alec, and Manu have donated an authentic Argentine BBQ for 10. It will be everything Argentina including Ariel’s rendition of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” ITEM # 145: FRENCH FEAST FOR FOUR. Brigitte will wow you with her culinary expertise. She is providing a home-cooked French dinner for 4 - includes appetizer, entree, cheese, desert, and wine catered to your taste.

ITEM #150: BELGIAN BEER. Bernard is offering a 3 bottles lot (each 0.75cl) of rare but absolutely splendid Belgian beer. To be sold together. Aged for about 6 months (for the connoisseurs: the bottles come WITH some dust) - this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity ITEM # 151: ROMANIAN BRANDY CURES THE SOUL. Cristina is auctioning off a bottle of her grandfather’s famous plum brandy – that she will have to bring back in September, but not only is it good, it will also be smuggled! (People got a taste of it during international TGIF)

Section E Gourmet ITEM # 146: WINE DOES THE BODY GOOD. Mani learned from Mondavi that super premium is the market to be in so he has donated a 1995 bottle of Veuve Cliquot Vintage Reserve. It will be a great match with many of the food and dinner options in the auction. ITEM # 147: HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. Junji has offered a cake by his wife. The winner of the bid can choose one cake from the following fabulous cakes: Chocolate Mousse Cake, Chocolate Banana Tart, Chocolate Cheesecake, Banana Bread ITEM # 148: WHY DON’T WE GET DRUNK??? Here’s how. Half a case of wine – 3 red, 3 white, with a retail value of over $100 has been donated by the Smith Leadership Academy. (All funds raised for this item will go to Smith Leadership Academy) ITEM # 149: BULGARIAN BAKLAVA. Evgeny, rather Elina, has donated a week's supply of home-made baklava. The baklava is actually made with honey and walnuts. Baklava's a desert from southeast Europe (the Greeks and the Turks always fight about who invented it first...the Bulgarians just eat it! :)) the one Evegeny and Elina will make is the Bulgarian version of the baklava. 8

Arts & Culture ITEM #201 SOMERVILLE'S BEST. Join Professor Tufano, as he chauffeurs you in his gas-guzzling car and guides you and three of your friends to a few of Somerville's favorite local eating spots: After brunch at a fine neighborhood diner, we will go shopping at Lyndell's Bakery and Capone's Italian Foods so you can continue to increase your waistline later in the day. These fine establishments are your prof's favorites, but are not normally highlights of MBA tours. Also included is a running commentary on Somerville and Porter Square highlights, including cheap eats, pizza and ice cream. Think of it as arbitrage: great food at low prices. ITEM # 202: FENG SHUI FOR YOU. Keat has donated a Personalized Feng Shui Consultation instead. He has been practicing feng shui for 4 years, and it is the ancient Chinese way of enhancing your luck through your environment. He is only an amateur, but he can tell people basic things like what their personal lucky directions are, how to alleviate certain sources of bad luck through furniture placement and traditional Chinese remedies such as the Pa Kua (eightsided mirror) and wind chimes.
