Org website/other contact info: http://www.summersearch.org/s.php Purpose of organization (i.e. mission statement): The mission of Summer Search is to find resilient low-income high school students and inspire them to become responsible and altruistic leaders by providing year-round mentoring, life-changing summer experiences, college advising, and a lasting support network. Through partnerships with high schools, summer experiential education programs, universities, and corporate employers, Summer Search provides students with a combination of full scholarships to summer experiential education programs, intensive long-term mentoring, private college and financial aid counseling, and ongoing professional development resources. Description of organization (background, key accomplishments, programs, etc.): Summer Search formed a partnership with Harvard Business School and they were the founders of the Charity Auction. As a result of the partnership with Summer Search, the Charity Auction has become a crucial part of section life. Over the years, as sections raised significantly larger levels of funds, it was the organization’s idea to distribute the total funds among other non-profits as well as. Now each year, Summer Search looks to each section to contribute at least some portion to help their needs as well. Summer Search began in 1990 in the San Francisco Bay Area, and currently serves over 600 students and over 2000 alumni in San Francisco, Boston, New York City, Seattle, Napa and Sonoma counties, and Silicon Valley. • • •

93% of students go on to college (95% are the first generation to do so) 89% have completed college or are on track to do so 56% of alumni report that they aspire to careers in education, law or government/policy, or social justice.
