Scriptural Support for the Literal Creation As Recorded In Genesis Today, amidst increasing technology and advancement in scientific knowledge and research, there remains the age old debate of the very origins of our universe and its inhabitants. The Genesis account of creation, which used to be part of the unshakeable and unquestionable foundation of Christian belief, has since found its place among speculation and theories at best as many believers have sought to marry science and faith in an unholy union. Does this have to be? Have Christians sold out one of the most important elements of Scripture in light of “modern day science”? Are there clearly Scriptures within God’s Holy Word that support and indeed prove that the literal creation story as told in Genesis is a reality? Without a doubt, God’s Word holds all answers for man on this subject.

While the answers are present, there yet remains a

prerequisite that each and every man must decide for himself before those answers can provide the secure foundation searched for. Faith truly is, “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1, KJV).1 To accept any theory of origin is to do so on the basis of faith and not on scientific evidence because it simply does not exist. Therefore, one must decide from the start where that faith will be placed. Will it be placed in scientific theories and endless revisions of educated propaganda, or will it be placed in a book that has stood for thousands of years without any required “updated” content to be plausible? For the purpose of this discussion, it will be assumed that one is willing to give complete authority to God’s Word to speak on this subject. This makes it quite easy to support the literal creation account of Genesis from Scripture. The first chapter of Genesis clearly shows that the creation occurred in six literal 24 hour days. The re-occurring statement of “evening and morning” as well as numerical adjectives such as “the first day, the second day, etc.” make it very plain that God is speaking of a definite period of time that is exactly like our measurement of time today. Jesus even goes on record as defining

the day by His question posed to His disciples “Are they not twelve hours in the day…” (John11:9)? Twelve hours per day and night equals a twenty four hour period. But what about other Biblical proofs? The Genesis account is also upheld with other passages such as where we find God giving the Ten Commandments: “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day…” (Exodus 20:11). It was important enough to Jehovah that His people realize the foundation of His creative work that He includes it in the giving of the Law. The New Testament also provides witness to the Genesis creation account by acknowledging that “through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God” (Hebrews 11:3), and “For by Him were all things created” (Colossians 1:16). What a wonderful affirmation for the believer! The Bible plainly records that God said “Let there be…” and there it was! In closing, the Bible holds the answers for all of man’s questions. Even amid an ocean of satanic lies and propaganda, God's Word provides security and comfort. In its pages contain the truth of today’s most debated events if one is willing to exercise faith to realize them. We have but one witness to the creation account and He asks, “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding” (Job 38:4). The world around us today remains full of unregenerate souls as well as compromising Christians who wish to declare their “understanding” but do so in vain. The truth is that God’s Word remains. The same faith that can be trusted to redeem a lost soul from an eternity of destruction can certainly be trusted to know the truth concerning this wonderful and majestic creation. Endnotes 1
