THIS IS A TEST • • • • •
I'm testing several programs together to make the document you're looking at right now.
OpenOffice.org Writer Paint.Net PDF Creator Firefox 3 Scribd
(Disclaimer: You're gonna see a bunch of oddly selected images here, so I'll take this opportunity to mention that my prime reason for making this is to create several random pages of widely different kinds of content, lots of colors, et cetera. So I could upload it to Scribd and then embed it here ! )
I was happily cruising the web when I was stunned to run across a website and a document format that I'd never seen before today !
So this demo is my first test of Scribd !
Like this one.
All the images shown here are either drawn with, or edited by a fantastic ( and free ) program called Paint.Net .
An incredible little feature is its ability to track every change you make to an image, so that at any point in editing you can pull up the History window and GO BACK, to any precise point to undo a change you'd like to undo.
Paint.Net absolutely rocks. With nearly hundreds of available features called plugins, Paint.Net can edit and improve photos, add drop shadows, gradient colors & edit images in layers. Usually only found on expensive So Paint.Net can do anything that or complicated professional Photoshop can do, with just one software, layers have 'clear' backgrounds and can be thought exception – brushwork. of as a stack of transparency slides that, when viewed together at the same time, form one image.
HOT TIP:
Get yourself a fantastic program called ArtRage !
Economically priced at only $25.00, ArtRage produces fantastically realistic brushed
paint strokes, emulating oils, watercolor, acrylic, ink, glitter and the various effects of an airbrush.
Here's why ! Since both Paint.Net and ArtRage have the ability to work in layers, and to save them as separate images and with transparent background, you then have the ability to create anything Photoshop can do. • • •
Paint.Net is free. ArtRage is $25.00. Photoshop – about $300.00
Get Paint.Net & ArtRage and You'l Save Yourself about $300 Bucks !
There's even a free version you can download that's still pretty incredible. But the Professional version gives you the ability to work in layers !
WHY'S THAT SO COOL ? Well ! That's easy ..
Get it here
Get it Here Okay. Moving on. More images:
You can see here that one layer is empty, one is the black lines and the other is the white fill area. I've got a little cartoon save as a 'PNG' or Portable Network Graphic type file. We want to create a 'think' When you open a layer in Paint.Net bubble to customize the cartoon guy for a client. a checked pattern is used to indicate transparency.
You can see the individual layers Here are the layers seen together: in the Layers window.
Comic styled text to that blank layer like this:
With Paint.Net we can use the Drop Shadow addon to create an When you make each of the illusion of depth. layers visible we have the new thought bubble for our cartoon:
Earlier I'd left myself an extra 'blank' layer. I'll select it here and add some
I'll save this with the transparent background and add it to the cartoon when it's ready.
Okay. Need a cartoon.
I added a matching drop shadow to the cartoon guy.
Here's one: The saved it as a jpeg with a white background.
Open it as a new file.
And this is what you get !
Okay. So here's several pages of colorful & rambling content. At this point it's a 6-page OpenOffice Writer document. Paste the thought bubble into a new layer.
Now I just use sae it to PDF format, using PDF Creator, and upload it to Scribd !
