Every Friday the Zoo is closed to visitors. Telephone-(079)2546315 Established in 1951, Kamala Nehru Zoological garden is situated on the outer periphery of Kankaria Lake and spread over an area of 13 acres. Every year a good number of visitors come to visit the zoo. They all have the words of appreciation for the zoo. Within its confines it houses some of the rare species in the animal and bird kingdom. What set it apart from other zoological garden is the personal touch by the devoted zoo staff under the able guidance of the superintendent and continued support of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation making it a home away from home for its residents. The Kamala Nehru Zoological garden was started with a purpose: to take the visitors beyond the realms of fantasy. To enable them to get a close feel of birds, reptiles, and the animals. The zoo aims at not only conservation it endangered species, but also breeding them in captivity, so as to save them from extinction-keeping the generations of the day of the day after in mind. The zoological garden facilitates research activities apart from creating awareness. It also maintains full fledged in-house veterinary hospital.

What set this zoological garden apart is only its inhouse breeding facilities, but acceptance if the same by it inhabi9tants, making the birds of rare species of birds and animals which is difficult elsewhere. The zoo is vital part of the city’s commitment to environment. It is not only visited by schools, tourists, and families, but also wild life enthusiasts and conservation experts. Love by everyone, the zoo is the city’s most sought after destination. I Love to visit Kamala Nehru Zoological garden now and then.
