Sativa Quinn Sample Planning & Fundraising Projects 1997 - 2006 Economic Development • Alaska Native Heritage Center – a gathering place for urban Native / tourist attraction – Won over $10M in grants and appropriations towards the capital campaign and start-up funds for this project that created over 100 jobs • Nunavik Manufacturing Plant – Won over $1M to start a plant in Kotzebue, Alaska which manufactures structural insulated panels for use in construction • Chenega Harbor Facility – Worked with the community of Chenega, Alaska throughout the process of community planning, harbor facility planning, and feasibility studies Community Planning and Infrastructure • Mountain View Weed and Seed – worked closely with residents of Mountain View, a very diverse, very low income neighborhood of Anchorage, to develop community coalitions and win a Federal grant that supports grassroots efforts to fight crime and improve the quality of life • Toksook Bay, Alaska – worked closely with the community to develop and win a small grant for partnership-building between the Tribal and City governments, leading into collaborative land use planning • Old Harbor, Alaska – worked closely with the community to raise over $700K towards a multi-purpose building including a clinic, small museum, and gathering place • New Stuyahok, Alaska – won a highly competitive federal grant to construct a Family Resource Center where a variety of social services are provided Arts and Culture • Nikaitchuat Ilisagviat – won several grants that have provided over $2M to support program and operating expenses at this Inupiaq language immersion school in Kotzebue, Alaska • Aqqaluk Trust – won a grant to conduct an assessment of Inupiaq language use in Northwestern Alaska and to hold regionwide conferences for discussion of survery results and planning of language revitalization activities • Asian Alaska Culture Center – won a State grant that brought a Korean dance troup to perform in Anchorage for the annual Asian Culture Night event • Out North – worked with this local independent arts producer on developing the pitch to fundraise for a multi-purpose building to include artists’ residences, studio space, performance space, and a café. • Stories Given, Stories Shared – won grants to produce this 15-minute introductory film used at the Alaska Native Heritage Center to help visitors understand the diverse Native cultures of the region

Dances with Horses – conducted funding research for a dance project designed to grow out of spontaneous interaction between a highly regarded small dance troupe based out of Boston, Massachussetts and four horses
Justice • Tribal Courts – won grants for Tribal Court planning and training efforts in the communities of Fort Yukon, Alaska and Kotzebue, Alaska • Alaska Legal Services Center - won a grant to provide Tribal Court trainings throughout Alaska in partnership with the Alaska Inter-tribal Council • Victims for Justice – won a grant for this Anchorage-based group to offer victimoffender mediation services with juvenile offenders in Anchorage Technology • Nunavik Manufacturing Plant – funded the establishment of a manufacturing plant intended to move the Northwest Alaska region away from stick-built construction and towards the use of Structural Insulated Panels, which provides both economic and environmental benefits, as well as improved weather-proofing. • Code Red – funded the development and distribution of fire safety equipment designed for rural Alaskan communities, where unpaved roads and deep snow have prevented conventional equipment from being effective. • Ekwok Alternative Energy – funded the purchase and installation of a windmill in the village of Ekwok to test the potential for substantial future use of wind energy in the community. • Sought funds for the testing of a soil-stabilizing product as a cost-effective method for environmental cleanup of contaminated soils. • Sought funds for a manufacturing plant designed to produce treated wood products using a double diffusion process with environmentally safe chemicals. Other Activities In addition to writing grant proposals for clients, I have taught grant-writing workshops, offered one-on-one grants mentoring, facilitated program planning efforts, conducted funding research, and provided coaching/editing services for novice grant writers. I have also served as part of a team that designed both a grants mentoring program to train more grant writers in rural Alaska, and a program designed to seek out and train interns in Anchorage with the aptitude to become skillful grant proposal writers.
