Junior Auxiliary of Taney County 2009-2010 Projects ANGEL FOOD (Service project) Chair: Cathy Brown Budget for 2009-10: $0 This project provides volunteers to assist with local monthly food plan distribution. The 2009 schedule if for distribution on the fourth Saturday of each month. HUG BASKETS (Service project) Chair: Person who brings proposal Budget for 2009-10: $0 This project provides a basket of necessary items to a needy person / family in the community. This person / family can be anyone who needs extra care. Occasionally, the Chapter will also do a group collection for needed items (e.g., Christmas gifts to Women’s Crisis Center). The individual who brings the need to the Chapter’s attention will chair the project until its completion. Suggested need should be brought first to Cathy Brown, Projects Chair, who will then bring the proposal to Board and Chapter. JA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TANEY COUNTY (Service project) Chair: Jerra Caldwell Budget for 2009-10: $2000 This project is a $500 scholarship donated to each of four area county high schools (Branson, Kirbyville, Forsyth and Hollister) awarded to graduating high school students (male or female) who show initiative and willingness to volunteer in their communities. Scholarships are not renewable. NIGHTINGALES (Service project) Chair: TBD Budget for 2009-10: $0 This project provides volunteer hours to enhance the lives of residents in care facilities, write letters, address Christmas cards, or anything to make a resident’s day a little brighter. This project also includes Glitz and Glamour, a fun afternoon of make-up and jewelry given to residents of a local senior care facility. PROM DRESS PROJECT (Service project) Chair: Suzanne Newkirk Budget for 2009-10: $1,000.00 The Prom Dress Project provides high school girls who might not otherwise have an opportunity to enjoy their proms, with gently worn or new prom dresses and accessories. Girls are identified through high school counselors and are allowed to “shop” from dresses at designated times. RUN FROM THE COUCH 5K AND FAMILY FITNESS WALK (Finance / Service project) Chair: Pam Foudray / Linda Lewis Budget for 2009-10 (Walk): $300.00 The Run from the Couch 5K is a fund-raising event held to raise funds and provide a healthy activity in the community. Held in conjunction with the Run From the Couch 5K, the Family Fitness Walk provides a one-mile family fitness walk with various activity stations along the way. Each station promotes movement and healthy activities.

COLLEGE READINESS (Service project) Chair: Donna Harris Budget for 2009-10: $850.00 This project is a program designed to guide students and their parents through the process of finding financial aid and scholarships for furthering their educations after high school. Working in conjunction with county high schools, information-packed notebooks are distributed to all interested juniors and seniors. SCHOLARCARE (Service project) Chair: Jerra Caldwell Budget for 2009-10: $1,600.00 (3 students + $100 admin) The Scholarcare project is a program designed to help provide support and encouragement to a student who may be experiencing his / her first time away from home. Selection of a student is based on financial need and school counselor recommendations. Notes, small gifts and e-mails are just some of the ways a JA member can participate in this program. All members should participate in small gifts to Scholar Care students. Each student receives $500.00 annually, renewable at his / her request for continuance. SNACKS AND PACKS (SIP) (Service project) Chair: Stacy Cummings Budget for 2009-10: $9,500.00 The Snacks in Packs, or SIP, project provides nutritious snack packs over weekends for children at risk of going hungry. In addition, the project provides classroom volunteers to support teachers and students. This project takes place at the Hollister elementary school. “Bagpacking” and classroom help are two of the ways to participate in this project. TEACHING LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS (TLC) (Service project) Chair: TBD Budget for 2009-10: $500.00 Working through the Boys and Girls Club of Taney County, this project addresses issues that are age-specific to girls 10-15. The project is designed to guide the girls to make positive decisions at a critical time in their development. This project involves volunteers who meet weekly during the school year. TRIVIA CHALLENGE (Finance project) The JA Trivia Challenge is JA’s largest fund-raising effort. Held for nine years, this project is a large trivia event where community participants gather in groups of eight to “play” against one another in a trivia game. It includes a large silent auction and raffle. OTHER PROJECTS As voted on by the Chapter, other projects for fund-raising or service (e.g., Branson Airport concessions, school readiness fair, volunteering at other special events) may be looked upon as “projects” but not formally positioned as such.
