Name: Haijoong Bryan Chung Mail Box No:______ Salvation I(ST223) Due By March 26th, 2008 The Person of Christ << WCF, ch VIII: 1-3, 7>> Of Christ the Mediator God ordain the Lord Jesus, his only begotten Son, to be the Mediator between God and man, the Prophet, Priest, and King, the Head and Savior of his church, the Heir of all things, and Judge of the world. The Son of God, the second person in the Trinity, being very and eternal God, of one substance and equal with Father is very God, and very man, yet one Christ, the only Mediator between God and man. The Lord Jesus, in his human nature thus united to the divine, was sanctified, and anointed with the Holy Spirit, above measure, having in him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. He was called by his Father, who put all power and judgment into his hand, and gave him commandment to execute the same. Christ, in the work of mediation, acts according to both natures, by each nature doing that which is proper itself. (Yet, by reason of the unity of the person.) << WLC, Q & A 36 – 40 >> -The only Mediator of the covenant of grace is the Lord Jesus Christ. - Christ the Son of God became man, by taking to himself a true body, and reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary, of her substance, and born of her, yet without sin. - It was requisite that the Mediator should be God, that he might sustain and keep the human nature from sinking under the infinite wrath of God to justify God’s justice, procure his favor, purchase a peculiar people, give his Spirit to them, conquer all their enemies, and bring them to everlasting salvation. - It was requisite that the Mediator should be man, he might advance our nature … that we might receive the adoption of sons, and have comfort and access with boldness unto the throne of grace. - It was requisite that the Mediator, who was to reconcile God and man, should himself be both God and man that the proper works of each nature might be accepted of God for us. << WSC, Q & A 21-22 >> - The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who being the eternal Son of God, became man. He is God and man in two distinct natures, and one person. - Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a true body, and reasonable soul, being conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin. << Hodge, pp. 378 – 423 >> Scriptural Facts concerning the Person of Christ
