GAUGE 19 ts = 4”; 28 rows = 4” in Pat St AND reverse St st on size 8 needles TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE PATTERN STITCH (Worked on an odd number of sts) Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1, rep from * across. Row 2: Purl. Rep these 2 rows for Pat St.

BACK With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 77(85-97-105-113) sts. Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K1, * p3, k1, rep from * across.

Row 2: P1, * k3, p1, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 4” from beg, end on RS. Change to larger needles and MC and p the next row. Work even in Pat St until piece measures 14 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Shape Armholes: Bind off 3(3-6-6-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 71(79-85-93-97) sts. Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 7(9-9-11-11) times – 57(61-67-71-75) sts. Work even until armholes measure 8(8 1/2-8 1/2-9-9)”, end on WS. Bind off.

LEFT FRONT Work same as back until piece measures 9” from beg, end on RS – 77(85-97-105-113) sts. Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): Bind off 12(12-12-12-14) sts, work to end – 65(73-85-93-99) sts. Bind off 5(5-5-5-6) sts at same edge twice, 3 sts 4(6-15-17-19) times, 2 sts 13(13-4-4-2) times, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 6 times. AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 14 1/2” from beg, end on WS. Continuing to work neck shaping, bind off 3(3-6-6-8) sts at beg of the next row, then dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 7(9-9-11-11) times. When all neck and armhole decs have been completed, fasten off last st.

RIGHT FRONT Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Bind off and dec for neck at beg of RS rows. Bind off for armhole at beg of WS row. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows.

SLEEVES With smaller needles, using MC, cast on 45 sts. Work even in ribbing same as back for 4”, end on WS. Change to larger needles and work even in Reverse St st, inc 1 st each side every 2(2-1 1/2-1-1)” 6(6-8-11-13) times – 57(57-61-67-71) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS. Shape Cap: Bind off 3(3-6-6-8) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 51(51-49-55-55) sts. Dec 1 st each side every RS row 18(16-14-16-16) times, then every other RS row 0(1-2-1-1) times, end on WS. Bind off remaining 15(17-17-21-21) sts.

FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve caps to back and front armholes, leaving top front edge of sleeve cap open. Sew side and sleeve seams. Left Neckband: With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 17 sts. * Work even in St st for 2”, end on RS. Next Row (WS): Purl, inc 2 sts evenly spaced across –19 sts. Row 1 (RS): P1, (k1, p3) 4 times, k1, p1. Row 2: K the k sts and p the p sts as they face you. Rep Rows 1 and 2 for 2”, end on WS decreasing 2 sts evenly spaced across last row – 17 sts. Rep from * until band, when slightly stretched, reaches from left front edge along top front edge of sleeve cap to center of back neck, end on WS. Bind off.

Right Neckband: Work to correspond to left neckband until band, when slightly stretched, reaches from right front edge along top front edge of sleeve cap to center of back neck, end on WS. Bind off. Sew bound-off ends of neckbands tog. Sew inner edges of neckbands to left and right neck edges with seam at center back neck. Buttonloops: With crochet hook, join yarn with a sl st in right front edge of right neckband. Ch 10, join with a sl st in first ch. Fasten off. Repeat on left front edge of left neckband. Lap right front over left front and sew button to RS of left front under right buttonloop. Sew second button to WS of right front over left buttonloop.
