Sports-Active Group of Athletics(SAGA) ( 044)791-3034/+63916-786-1258 [email protected] Sports-Active Group of Athletics(SAGA) presents Talent Identification Program(TIP) which would determine and unveiled talent of student in sports particularly. Group SAGA believe in the principle of Multiple Intelligence by Howard Gardner that a person comprise of not only a single intelligence but combination of various intelligences. The goal of this program is to help the school discover and develop hidden intelligence and talent of students, Kinesthetic Intelligence specifically. Gardner define this intelligence(body smart) as the capacity to use your whole body or parts of your body(your hands, your fingers, your arms, etc), to solve a problem, make something, or put on some kind of production. The most evident examples are people in athletics. Manny “Pacman” Paquiao, Efren “Bata” Reyes, Lydia de Vega, and some other National and International Athletes are Intelligent! They are kinesthetically intelligent. A student who is excelling in academics and a student who would know and improve his/her talent in sports are both potential successful. Famous Manny Pacquiao is earning million of dollars because he tapped his bodily intelligence in boxing. Be motivated! The program includes referral for College Scholarship plus pack of benefits (board and lodging, allowances, free hospitalization, uniforms, shoes, etc) in different Colleges and Universities in Manila for students who would meet certain criteria to serve as school varsity. The program would tapped and test all students in different sport events included in the SAGA-TIP program; Basketball, Track and Field, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Badminton and Football/Footsal.

Letter from the Coach

It all just stated when I saw big and skillful guys practicing basketball for Intramurals. I was on my first year in high school then at Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School. I became fascinated when I saw how their coaches train them and how they vigorously play the game. I asked the coach if I could join the tryout but my height don’t qualify. I can’t blame him, I’m just 5’4’’ tall that time and not that skillful. But it didn’t stop there, I went to taekwondo, football, volleyball and baseball but it didn’t fit me still. Rather, I didn’t qualify. Until a savior came! Track and Field coach, Benjamin Fajardo is looking for students who are willing to be part of under-training team. I have no choice, even though my interest is not in running I just signed up simply just to brag that I’m a school varsity. Luckily, I became part of the team not as player in my first year high school but as cheerer when the team A players competed in the Provincial Meet. After a year, I became part of the team’s line up for Provincial Meet but I didn’t even get a medal. In my third year high school nothing changed, still I got no even a single medal. It’s sad but not until one of the former volleyball spiker of our school named Norman Rance visited the school to see his junior batch in volleyball. I saw his bag, jersey and jacket in high quality garment and printed with San Beda College patch. I have no idea of what something I would discovered that moment that will change my life. He was a star player before in our school and luckily we were past neighbors. I just said to him “Norman, nice jacket!” but then he called me and gave me advice. I wont forget what he said “ Pare, kumusta kondisyon mo? Magpalakas ka pa. Madaming scholarships sa Manila kahit saan mong gusto na school basta malakas ka. Madami pang benefits”. Norman didn’t know how much motivation he gave me. I was on my third year that time, I didn’t waste time. Everyday, I train myself even there was no training schedule. I have a goal, what Norman said is true. That would be a great achievement if I would acquire what he was enjoying that time. I set tight discipline to myself. I train vigorously, with strainiety and pushed myself to its limit. I did road runs, intervals runs, sprints, long runs just what my coach told me. Provincial Meet 1998, qualifying for “Regional Meet” next before “Palarong Pambansa”. The time to prove myself has come! I need to bagged gold to be qualified to the next level of competition but there are two strong Palarong Pambansa athletes whom I will be competing with, one is from San Miguel High School(Angelo) and the other one is from National Vacational School Athletic Assosciation(Glen Puaso). God’s Grace! I won! I grabbed the championship crown and broke the current 400m dash record in Bulacan, 51. 87 secs! I won also the gold medal in Regional meet(CLRAA) and qualified in Palarong Pambansa 1998 in Bacolod City. Panaad Stadium, Bacolod- As I run towards the finish line, coaches from different Universities and Colleges awaits. They gave me calling cards and discussed numerous benefits only if I’m going to study and compete for their school. I took the offer University of Santo Tomas by Coach Manny Calipes. I enjoyed full scholarship, free board and lodging, allowance, free hospitalization, high-ends vitamins, uniforms, adidas/nike shoes every year etc. and graduated as B.S Mathematics; Major in Actuarial Science. And it’s all because of Sports and God’s grace! At present, I’m taking my Graduate Studies in Ateneo de Manila University; Master of Arts in Mathematics Education for free; care of Ateneo Alumni Athletic Scholarship. Also I’m coaching UST Track Team. And just recently represented Philippines in International Amateur Athletic Federation(IAAF) Coaching Course Level II in Jakarta, Indonesia. Benber D.
