TOPIC : Chemical Equilibrium

OBJECTIVES: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to: (a) Explain a reversible reaction, dynamic equilibrium and law of mass action. (b) State the characteristics of a system in equilibrium. (c) Explain the features of a graph of concentration against time for a reversible reaction. (d) Define homogeneous and heterogeneous equilibria. (e) Deduce and write expressions for equilibrium constants in terms of concentration, Kc and partial pressure, Kp for homogeneous and heterogeneous systems. (f) Derive and use the equation, Kp = Kc (RT)∆n. (g) Calculate Kc, Kp or the quantities of species present at equilibrium. (h) Define and determine the degree of dissociation,α. (i) Deduce the expression for reaction quotient, Q and predict the direction of net reaction by comparing the values of Q and Keq. (j) State Le Chatelier’s principle. (k) Explain the effect of the following factors on a system at equilibrium using Le Chatelier’s principle: i. concentration of reacting species ii. pressure and volume (include the addition of inert gas at constant pressure and at constant volume) iii. temperature iv. catalyst REFLECTION : Syukur Alhamdulillah the class goes on well. Firstly start with quiz until 3 o’clock. Then continue with discuss tutorial. Finished to cover all structure questions only. NOTES : Quiz 6 set A chapter 5: Chemical bonding 45 minutes. (5 objectives and 2 structures) Stop at structure questions. Next week continue with objective questions and then tutorial 7.0 Ionic Equilibrium. Insya 4W1.
