Opal Two

Opal Two is a new development located at St. Georges Close and provides excellent, spacious, ensuite accommodation for c.1000 students. A large proportion of the rooms are let to students from the University of Sheffield and the remaining beds are allocated to other students in the city. The flats are separated into clusters, the majority of which are for groups of 5 and 6 and these are occupied by new graduates/undergraduates and returning students. LOCATION: University Area Map, Ref: D2/E2 St. George’s Close S3 7HD Opal Two is situated at the heart of the campus, within 5 minutes walk of Firth Court, the Students’ Union, Management School and the Engineering Department. A 15 minutes walk or a short tram ride will take you into the City Centre. The nearest supermarkets are situated on Edward Street (map ref: E2), Infirmary Road (Map Ref. The following furniture is provided in all types of study bedrooms; fitted carpets, bed (with storage space), wardrobe, chest of drawers, wall shelf, desk and desk chair. The en-suite bathroom has a washbasin, shower and w.c. Communal Rooms The kitchens are well equipped, each with an electric cooker (hob only in studios), a microwave (combi-microwave in studios), a fridge freezer (fridge and a separate freezer in the studio), iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, kettle and toaster. Also available is a mop, bucket, dust pan and brush. The sitting/dining areas are furnished with a dining table, chairs, comfortable seating, and a TV is provided.

A Common Room is available on-site and provides a focal point for residents to socialise. A pool table, table tennis table and large screen TV with some satellite channels are provided in the Common Room. Residents can obtain drinks and snacks from the vending machines on site. Customer Reception A 24 hour Customer Reception is located on the Ground Floor, Launderette The laundry on site is equipped with coin-operated washing and drying machines. Telephones/Computer Data points A telephone is provided in each room. Residents will not be required to pay line rental but will be charged for external calls and a top-up card system can be purchased from the Customer Reception. All incoming calls and internal calls are free of charge. Data points are provided in each study bedroom administered by Ask4. Residents can also purchase the 4Extra package which includes 4TV, 4Play (for games) and 4Storage for an additional £30. You will be able to sign up on arrival. Parking There are parking spaces for disabled badge holders use only. These spaces are administered by the Customer Reception. Cycle racks are provided on site – these are located in the courtyard and students using these will be required to provide their own chains. Residents will benefit from 24 hour on-site security and CCTV equipment is installed on site. All flat entrance doors and study bedroom doors are fitted with electronic card access systems and ground floor study bedrooms are fitted with window locks. Each study bedroom door has a door viewer fitted and each flat is fitted with a door entry system. Safety and Security Fire alarms and smoke detectors are installed within the flats. Residents will benefit from 24 hour on-site security and CCTV equipment is installed on site. All flat entrance doors and study bedroom doors are fitted with electronic card access systems and ground floor study bedrooms are fitted with window locks. Each study bedroom door has a door viewer fitted and each flat is fitted with a door entry system. Leisure Facilities There are excellent leisure facilities on site, including a 19m indoor heated swimming pool, a dance studio offering a variety of lessons, a fully equipped gym, a sauna, a steam room and a jacuzzi. Residents of Opal Two are eligible to use the Leisure Facility. Charges for 2007/8 session were £28.00 per month – this charge may change for 2008/9 but remain competitive.
