Rome Part V The Religion of Mithras was the largest practiced religion during the time of Agustus Mithras was a sun god and promised his followers eternal life and he had a birthday that was December 25. The day they thought was the day when the sun was reborn. It was an all male religion. They had to be born again and the blood of a bull would wash away their sins. The Romans conquered the Jews but let them keep their kings. It created a heavy burden on the poor because they had to pay to the Romans and the Jewish king taxes. • • •

The Sadducees the upper class (going to the Temple in Jerusalem was what made ‘em Jewish) The Pharisees the middle class (following the Law was the most important thing that made ‘em Jewish) Zealots were rural and poor (freedom fighters that believed most important thing was that Judea was free)

It is into that harsh world that Jesus is born in 4BC He is known throughout his whole life as Jesus of Nazareth but was born in Bethlehem. When he was thirty he left his hometown and began to preach all across the Jewish lands about 3 different kinds of things Love(Agape), Forgiveness and Salvation. Jesus then tells that God loves them because they are individuals not just because they were them. He said that we must also love God and love other people as well.
