Revision action plan – Working scientifically. To assist you with your studies, following is a list of what you should know by the end of this unit. Before you start revising, tick the boxes that best represent you. This will help you prioritise the areas you need to concentrate on.
Key knowledge and skills. At the end of this unit you should know, and be able to do the following: How well do I know this? Unsure Explain what science is and how it differs from other disciplines. Describe the importance of science to our everyday lives. Demonstrate safe and responsible work practises in the laboratory. Identify hazards associated with particular laboratory procedures. Apply the steps of scientific method when doing experiments. Identify and correctly draw scientific equipment. Use a range of scientific equipment with appropriate accuracy, including • a Bunsen burner • a thermometer • test tubes • measuring cylinders Understand the importance of accurate observations and measurements. Recognise the importance of identifying variables when designing an experiment. Organise and record data so that conclusions can be drawn and relate these conclusions to the aim of the investigation.
