Sun Healthcare Group, Inc Albuquerque, New Mexico
December 2005 – November 2009
Senior Application Manager - SunBridge: Peak Medical Corporation was acquired by Sun Healthcare Group in December 2005. My initial responsibility was the migration of the Information Services department of Peak Medical Corporation with the MIS department of Sun Healthcare. This consisted of the migration of all hardware and software used by Peak Medical Corporation. This also included the migration of not only the corporate office in Albuquerque, but each of the 53 skilled nursing facilities and subsidiaries operated by Peak Medical Corporation. The migrated systems included Accounting, Clinical, Network operations and Database Services. The migration was completed by the end of August 2006. Once the migration was completed I than began my duties as Senior Application Manager. As Senior Application Manager, I was responsible for the support, maintenance and training of multiple accounts receivable, resident trust and patient care applications used by SunBridge, which is the long term care subsidiary of Sun Healthcare Group. In 2008 SunBridge selected a new accounts receivable, resident trust and patient care software package. I was the MIS Project Manager for the conversion, implementation and training of the new software selected. The new software package will be used in 200 plus skilled nursing centers. Upon completion, the project would consolidate the multiple accounts receivable, resident trust and patient care software packages used within SunBridge. The project began in August 2008 and is schedule for completion in June 2010. Peak Medical Corporation Albuquerque, New Mexico
May 1998 – December 2005
Vice President, Information Services: As the first information services employee of Peak Medical Corporation, I was responsible for developing the Information Services department of a startup long-term care company. The development of the department required the detailed installation and implementation of the financial and clinical applications that would be used to create the initial clinical and financial databases for Peak Medical Corporation. The implementation of these critical applications required the installation of a local area network in the home office and the initial ten facilities. As the company grew through acquisition, data management and security became a primary initiative. To accomplish this initiative I was charged with developing policies and procedures for data security and integrity. Data management, which includes labor and census reporting, has been refined from monthly reporting to daily reporting at the district level and weekly reporting at the corporate level. Peak Medical Corporation began at a time when the Internet became not only a valuable but also a required tool to do business. In recognizing this, I initiated the development of the web site for Peak Medical. Additional tools such as e-mail, high-speed Internet access and virtual private network connections have been installed throughout the company. As Peak grew so did the size of the Information Services department. I now supervise a Network Administrator, Web Developer and a hardware and software support staff. To date my staff and I are responsible for 61 local area networks and over 600 clinical and financial users. This is in addition to the adherence of the regulatory requirements for information services and technologies required by federal and state agencies.
Horizon/CMS Healthcare Corporation Albuquerque, New Mexico
July 1987 – May 1998
Director of Training and Support: I began my employment with Horizon/CMS as a Reimbursement Analyst. As a Reimbursement Analyst I was responsible for the Medicaid and Medicare cost reporting for all skilled and intermediate facilities operated by Horizon/CMS. In November of 1988 I was promoted to Manager of Ancillary Accounting. My responsibilities were to maximize the profitability of the ancillary services provided by the skilled and intermediate facilities. This responsibility included the development of the accounting policies and procedures for all ancillary services as well national training and implementation of these policies and procedures. In early 1991 Horizon/CMS began looking into new accounting software. This software would include General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Resident Trust, Accounts Payable and Payroll. At this time I was promoted to the Director of Training and Support. My job duties in this new position included the review and recommendation of potential software packages. Once a software package was chosen I was then responsible for the conversion and implementation of the new software package. Once the conversion was completed successfully, I was then responsible for the training and support of the new applications. In addition to my training and support responsibilities I authored the first Business Office Policies and Procedures manual for Horizon/CMS. The Hillhaven Corporation Tacoma, Washington
June 1984 – July 1987
Field Accountant: As a Field Accountant for the Hillhaven Corporation I supported and consulted the business offices of ten long-term care facilities in four states. This included the support and training of the Accounts Receivable, Resident Trust, Accounts Payable and Payroll functions of the business office. My duties also included maximizing the accounts receivable collections in each facility. As my facilities reached and maintained the collection standards of the corporation, I was given additional responsibilities of assisting other districts with the acquisition and disposition of multiple long-term care facilities. The acquisition of new facilities required the conversion and training of each business office function from the previous ownership to the policies and procedures of the Hillhaven Corporation. The disposition of a long-term care facility required the assets of the Hillhaven Corporation be reconciled and accounted for. Additional disposition duties included the ongoing collections of the final resident balances. As the acquisition and disposition activity of the company tapered off I was given the additional responsibilities of preparing the operating budgets for the Midwest region of the company. Jasper County Care Facility Newton, Iowa
June 1982 – June 1984
Accounting Supervisor: I was recruited to establish the business office for an ICF, ICF/MR and RCF/MR licensed facility that had previously had all accounting functions handled by the office of the County Treasurer. My initial responsibility was the development and implementation of the accounting policies and procedures that would allow the new management team to measure the financial performance of the facility. In addition to providing management with a financial picture, the accounting policies and procedures had to adhere to the governmental accounting guidelines required by Jasper County and the state of Iowa. Once the business office was established and operating under the new policies and procedures I was then given the responsibility to automate the accounting functions. This entailed researching, reviewing and selecting the hardware and software vendor. Once a software package was chosen I was then responsible for the conversion and implementation of the new software package. The segregation and implementation of the accounting functions as well as the automation of the accounting procedures was instrumental in the approval of Jasper County Care Facility to participate in the Title XIX Medicaid program of the state of Iowa.
