***** PRESS RELEASE ***** The 2nd Annual Nation’s TriathlonTM Roll Call Congressional Challenge Results Are In! Rebekah Sagan and John Hutchinson Cross Finish Line First in Competition Among Federal Employees WASHINGTON, DC -- The 2nd Annual Nation’s TriathlonTM Roll Call Congressional Challenge took place today at the Nation’s Triathlon™ to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Challenge featured more than 400 competitors from Capitol Hill and the federal government participating in teams of one, two or three for the first triathlon ever to feature Congressional and federal employees. Participants came from the White House, Capitol Hill, and numerous federal agencies. Rebekah Sagan, age 27 with the National Institutes of Health took first place among the women, posting a time of 2:25:39. The top male in the Roll Call Congressional Challenge was John Hutchinson, age 25, with the Department of Defense, who posted a time of 2:04:30. The Challenge took place as part of the larger Nation’s Triathlon™ which featured a record field of nearly 4500 competitors, including Mayor Adrian Fenty, competing in the shadow of our national monuments and memorials. With athletes represented from 855 cities, 46 states and 7 different countries, the Nation’s

Triathlon is the fastest growing triathlon in the country. This USAT-sanctioned Olympic distance triathlon included a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, 40k bike course through downtown D.C., and a 10k run along Washington, DC’s monumental corridor finishing on the scenic banks of the Potomac River. -more-

-2With a start time of 7am, the first competitors crossed the finish line in just under 2 hours, joining their family and friends at the JetBlue Airways Finish Festival. Washington, DC’s own Mayor Adrian Fenty finished 36th in his division, with a time of 2:21:18. In addition to the general race and Congressional Challenge, the race also included the 2nd Annual UMUC Military Challenge, with more than 500 competitors participating. The winners were Ken Corigliano, age 29, with the U.S. Air Force, who finished with a time of 2:03:36 and Stephanie Brown, age 26, with the U.S. Navy, who finished with a time of 2:24:55. Teams and individual competitors from all four military academies also participated in the 1st Annual Commander-in-Chief Triathlon Championship, with the U.S. Naval Academy taking the top spot among the academy teams; Scott Terry, age 23, with the U.S. Naval Academy, taking first place among the males with a time of 2:01:07; and Tracey Bruce, age 22, also with the U.S. Naval Academy, taking the top spot among the females with a time of 2:20:11. The Nation’s Triathlon, which is the only triathlon in the country dedicated to building awareness and raising money for the treatment of leukemia and bloodrelated cancers, raised $2.4 million for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society this year with nearly 600 athletes competing and raising funds through the Society’s (LLS) world-famous Team In Training (TNT) endurance sport training program. To date, the partnership has garnered an estimated $5.5 million for research, patient education and support initiatives that will help the LLS bring us closer to a cure. “We’d like to thank all of our competitors and sponsors this year,” noted Nation’s Triathlon™ founder Charles Brodsky. “Their participation has helped make this the fastest growing triathlon in the nation.
