01. Title Business opportunities in Pambahinna area. A study of recognizing potential business opportunities in Pambahinna area.

02. Background of the study Businesses are the key to success in any country in the world. Business helps people to live easily by providing necessary goods and services. The success of the business is to identify the best opportunity in right the first time. Successful entrepreneurs are very keen to identifying business opportunities. Business opportunity consists of four integrated elements all of which are to be present within the same timeframe (window of opportunity) and most often within the same domain or geographical location, before it can be claimed as a business opportunity. These four elements are: •

A need

The means to fulfill the need

With anyone of the elements missing, a business opportunity may be developed, by finding the missing element. The more unique the combination of the elements, the more unique the business opportunity. Pambahinna area is a rural village. Most of people are very poor farmers. This area is rapidly developing in Imbulpe divisional secretariat. In early one acre of land was 10000-20000 rupees, but it has grown up to over 30000 rupee per perch at present. Samanalawewa project (1986-1992) brought the first foot in developing this area. Roads, hospitals, schools, electricity and other facilities build in that time. After establishment of Sabaragamuwa University in 1991 brought new opportunity in development. There are about 2000 students and 200 academic and non academic staffs are living now. Most of them are coming from all around the country. This is the great opportunity people get to start business. Because all students and staffs are have to fulfill their requirements within available resources. Students and others have faced many difficulties in fulfilling their requirements. This is the main study area of research. Why people have not identified that they have opportunity to provide facilities to them and earn profit. One research has done in Recreational potential of the Belihuloya – Pambahinna area: A study of the rational allocation of the geographic resources for Tourism Development by K. She has identified that The BelihuloyaPambahinna area is very important tourist transit zone for domestic and foreign tourists who traverse the hill country and south coast areas. This area could be used as a stopover destination or for short holidays. . However she reviled that, the socio-economic conditions prevailing in the area prevent any enterprising venture into the tourist industry - what with low-income levels and average rate of literacy. The apparent disregard by the authorities aggravates the matter. This research covers only a potentiality about tourism sector. It is also a part of one business opportunity prevailing here.
