COLLECTION METHOD.

Data collection method for primary data is questionnaire done with a sample size of 30 people who aged between 19 to 25 years mainly college goers.







MOTIVATION. THIS

STUDY IS DONE FOR THE PURPOSE OF SPREADING GENERAL AWARENESS AND HEALTH RELATED AWARENESS.

HEALTH HAZARDS OF SMOKING. A

smoker inhales a substance containing 43 cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds besides four hundred other toxins including nicotine and tar.

  Smoking

causes lung and throat cancer, heart disease, emphysema, bronchial and lung disorders.

 A

recent report has shown that smoking tobacco and nicotine is the world’s leading cause of death and disability - more than HIV, AIDS, or famine.

 A

report by WHO estimates that smoking-related

generation is fond of smoking.

get stress-free and feel happy while smoking

  Long-term

health consequences of youth smoking is reinforced by the fact that most young people who smoke regularly continue to smoke throughout adulthood.

aged 13–14 yrs try their first cigarette, and most of them are not aware of the possible risk they are exposed to.

REASONS. 1.To attract the attention of society. 2.Think of it as a style statement. 3.Smoke to adhere to their social group and develop their social network. 4.Through smoking, most young people show their power and importance. 5.Another reason to make smoking as a habit is feeling of

HOW TO PREVENT? By

implementing anti-smoking plans and campaign at school level so as to make them aware of the dangers of smoking. By providing substitutes of smoking such as chewing gums, elaichi, sweet candies etc, which diverts them from smoking. Parental attention towards their young ones, so as to keep a check on their smoking habits.

ANALYSIS. The

following graphical representations of the questions give a clear picture to the objective. The following sample consists of 30 people, of age 19-25 years. The following group of 30 contains 22(73%) male and 8(27%) female candidates.

Of

the 22 male candidate 19(86.3%) said that they do smoke. Rest 3(13.6%) said they do not smoke which shows that the smoking rate is high compared to the non smokers. Whereas in female candidates smokers rate is 62.5% as compared to non smokers which is 37.5%. In this we see that male smokers are 79.1% and female smokers are

age of smoking is a very important factor for this objective. In this analysis we see that minimum age when most people start smoking is 12 years and this varies till maximum 14-15 years. This is the age when a young boy or girl gets influenced easily to these dilemmas, and are less

In

this graph we see that main influence of youngsters are their immediate surroundings. Parents, friends, their icons, brothers etc. Mostly students and college goers try it for fun and then extend this habit till adulthood. Media also plays a role in spreading this problem

The

following analysis tries to find that even after trying smoking for the first time, how does the growth in this habit takes place. This is implied by the larger section where 42% candidates smoke between 4-10 times a day which is generally high. The reason for this extension of this habit given by them is that cigarettes act as stress busters,

This

pictorial representation depicts that even after prolonged smoking 58% say that they will quit this habit, but the rest 42% said that they won’t quit and would continue with it. Among the 14(58%) quitters 11(78.5%) are boys and 3(21.5%) are girls. The 10(42%) non quitters consist of 8(80%) boys and 2(20%) girls.

reasons given by male quitters were many.  Some said they would stop smoking after having children, cause they do not want to be a bad influence on children's.  Some said that if they come across any serious health problem related to smoking they would quit smoking.  Female smokers had a genuine reason for quitting, since they said that after marriage they will have to quit, since their husband and in-laws will offend

PREVENTION. The

following preventive measures time of quitting were given by the candidates themselves. 1.By using substitute such as chewing gum. 2.By practising self control. 3.Joining rehab programs. 4.Consulting physicians. 5)

INTERPRETATION. After

all this analysis it is evident that the flux or originating point of smoking in person’s life is that person’s teen age period. Smoking is influenced mainly because they are influenced by friends and mostly do it for fun. Young male smokers are more as compared to their female counterparts. Most smokers intend to quit

CONCLUSION. In

spite of all the health warnings, youngsters continue to get enthusiastic on tobacco. Even though they all know that it's bad for them. It can be concluded that the habit of smoking catches a person mainly at the mere age of 14-16. It can also be concluded that a shallow knowledge of the health risks is not enough to convince youngsters to not smoke.
