Reflection # 3 David Sánchez Intro to Media
Does the internet and digital culture promote the proliferation of little narrative or does it invigorate a developing authoritarian technocracy?
Being a millennial is hard to think about a world without the digital platforms. Platforms such as the internet, are valuable and definitely a great source of knowledge. The true question about it is, is it really helping us or is it not. I remember whenever the internet did not exist and you actually had to have a program called the Complete encyclopedia. In this program you didn’t even thought about the veracity about the facts that it gave, there was no question about it. You believe solely on whatever this program told you about the information you were seeking. After the internet developed a bit more ,the false information began to arise. Pages like Wikipedia which at first glance one thought it was the panacea of knowledge began to develop a doubt in the general public. Mostly because of the way of how this internet page was acquiring its information supplies. Nowadays Wikipedia is still a big reference in everybody’s togo information about everything.
Now here is where it starts getting tricky, the fact that everybody is now living in a world where the information is at the speed of your fingertips , makes it not only refutable and easy to access but also the laziness of people makes it easier for false news to arise. Due to the fact that nobody will double check their sources and the way the get the information, people only care for the quickness of the news and not for the content of it. Talking about the proliferation in narrative, the internet has absolutely invigorate the quantity of how much information there is right now in the web. In every country of this world there exists internet, we are interconnected and now we live in a pseudo village where you can now in a matter of seconds know if a country gets a new president or a natural disaster happens at the other end of the world. This happens due to the digital platforms such as Facebook. Twitter , Instagram etc. These platforms have given us the chance to interconnect between old friends and they have also given us the opportunity to organize rally’s for good and bad causes. A developing technocracy can also be rising due to the failure of the political parties among us. Either the left ideology or the right winged parties haven’t been able to take us to a more developed race. A Technocracy would sometimes seem as a better way due to its no affiliation to any political party. I think people are starting to acknowledge about these ideas and it can be due to the digital culture because everybody in the world can access to the world’s knowledge and also to see for themselves that the political extremes are not at all the answer to our actual political climate . The answer is to listen to one another , understand us as human beings and develop a real development as a human race , in that way we can use all the resources that technology can
bring us as a population. Because in my opinion technology should always bring us together not separate us. If politicians understand this fundamental brick of power , I think that once and for all we can rise as human beings and as a human race.
