Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment (DART)

What is DART?1 The Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment (DART) is a program of ConnexOntario Health Services Information and is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment (DART) is: • a toll-free, province-wide, treatment information and referral service located in Ontario, Canada • available to professional and public callers • designed to link callers with suitable treatment options tailored to their individual needs DART specializes in the provision of information and referral to treatment services related to alcohol and drugs in Ontario. DART operates a toll-free, province-wide telephone service: The Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment Information Line (1-800-565-8603) (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) DART’s role is to link members of the general public with treatment resources for themselves or someone they know, and to provide professional callers with information about a range of suitable treatment options tailored to their client's specific needs. DART provides comprehensive, up-to-date status reports on the availability of a wide range of drug and alcohol treatment options, detailed descriptions of the types of treatment services available, and referral and admission procedures. DART staff members search a computerized database that is updated regularly and includes information about the 187 alcohol and/or drug treatment organizations in Ontario providing over 1,200 different programs. Treatment organizations report regularly to DART about available or upcoming treatment spaces.

DART contributes statistical data to the development of public policy and strategic planning concerning drug and alcohol treatment on a provincial, regional or local basis. DART responds to requests from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), other planning bodies, and treatment organizations for summaries of descriptive and statistical information from the DART database regarding the addiction treatment system in Ontario. DART regularly utilizes information in its database to produce the 'Directory of Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services in Ontario' and for its interactive Online Treatment Directory on the DART website. The DART database includes substance abuse treatment organizations in Ontario that: • receive funding (in whole or in part) from the federal, provincial, or municipal governments; • offer specialized treatment service(s) for individuals having alcohol and/or drug problems; and • accept referrals from the community.
