PRESIDENTIAL PHYSICAL FITNESS AWARDS This year at DES our 4th and 5th graders will be taking the Presidential Physical Fitness Test. The students have been aware of this event since last fall and we have been taking practice tests and discussing the event all year. Now that April has arrived it is time for students that seriously want to pass this test to work harder than ever before to be ready for the test in May.

one mile run, a shuttle run, a flexibility test, a one minute requirement for each test depends on the child’s age and gender. The test requirements are posted in the DES gym for anyone interested to come and read. Spring break is here and it is a great opportunity for students to work on building up their bodies! — Dayna Fisk-Williams PE Teacher —

The test has five parts and all five parts must be passed in order to earn the award. The parts included are a

DRAGON AWARDS This year students in all grade levels will have the opportunity to be honored for outstanding work through the Dragon Award and Principal’s Club Program.

Award Wall and receive a certificate! They will also be able to sign our Golden Book!

Each week, teachers can recognize students for producing an outstanding piece of work. Students will then have the opportunity to come to the office, explain why their work was exceptional, post their work on the Dragon Designed by Peggy Sun

That’s how many days will be left until the end of the school year when we start this fun activity!

AROUND THE WORLD IN Starting the week of April 19, each Morning, a different region of the world will be introduced and the children will be presented with a task to work on at home.

projects. Children will receive a stamp in their DES “passports” for each completed task.

On Friday, the students must bring their projects to school in order to show their work and to get their “Passport” stamped.

There will be a cultural celebration for all students who collected all the stamps. Weekly meetings will offer an opportunity to work on the tasks or to get more ideas for the home projects.

We promise this activity will be a great way to “travel around the world” and the projects will be lots of fun to make!

All of the DES students are eligible to participate in this activity. Parents may help heir children with the ssignments/

Lost & Found Check the lost and found located in the DES cafeteria. If your child is missing sweaters, coats etc. Please check it out.

April 22nd and 23rd will be the dates of registration for new Kindergarten students. You will need the following:

Friendly Reminder

Re-registration for all other returning students will take place on the 19th through the 21st of April. Please bring all updated information for their records emergency contacts, phone numbers, addresses etc.

Darmstadt Middle School Registration Parents of DES fifth grade students, registration for sixth grade will be held on April 16th. The hours will be between 8:15 - 11:30 at Darmstadt Middle School.
