THE RED TIE AFFAIR All funds raised from the Red Tie Affair goes towards PLWHIV/AIDS gatherings. These gatherings are important because they give Persons Living with HIV a chance to meet and really bond with others. This can significantly reduce the feelings of isolation that are so often synonymous with being HIV positive and facing the associated social stigma. It also provides AIDS NB an opportunity to assist PHA’s with skills building in a safe and personal environment. Because these events are not funded by the provincial or federal governments, all proceeds from Red Tie Affair go directly to supporting PHA gatherings, forums

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE and skills-building workshops. The first Red Tie Affair in 2006 was started by an AIDS NB board member who felt the need to do something for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PHA’s) and move beyond the tediousness of meetings. With the continued support of the Crowne Plaza, Racines and the Blue Door AIDS NB is hosting the third year of the event and just wrapped up another successful PLWHIV/ AIDS Gathering. HIV/AIDS prevention, education and support have been the cornerstones of AIDS NB’s work for the past 23 years. As a provincial organization AIDS NB provides services to people living with HIV and AIDS in all areas of the province.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has come out to

celebrate with us during this year’s Red Tie Affair. First and foremost

as a person living with HIV I know all to well the importance of having

opportunities to spend time with others who are also HIV positive. The

ability to know that someone else maybe experiencing the same highs

and lows that you are going through on a day to day basis and that you

are not alone on this journey. The outcome during these retreats is highly rewarding and therapeutic.

On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to thank all those who

have volunteered their time and to all of our sponsors in who have made

donations to make this event possible, as without their help we would not be able to put this event on.

I invite everyone this evening to enjoy the fabulous food, great entertain-

ment, company of old friends and new friends that you meet this evening. Cheers,

James R. Lord Edwards President
