Raymond's Denim lower profitability
According to Raymond’s latest annual report, its denim division was until now operating in a very competitive situation with pressure on prices (especially suppliers from China, Pakistan and Thailand are highly competitive).
The planned capacity expansion from 30 million metres per year to 40 million metres per year was completed in 2005-2006.
The new capacities came into production in phases during the last quarter of the year ended March 2006.
Denim segment however accounted for only 22% of Raymond's total revenues in last fiscal year ended 31 March 2006.
Profits only accounted for 13% of total profits in addition, clearly reflecting the low profatibility of denim activities if compared with other apparel.
