‘-ING FORMS’
AS A VERB: When you use continuous forms Ex: • I am playing with my brother • I have been calling you all day • She was working this morning
AS A NOUN: • Also known as ‘gerunds’, we use them in the same way as nouns 3.As a subject of the sentence Ex: -Learning English is very important for my career -Going to the gym regularly is very good for you
1.After certain verbs that express likes and dislikes: Love, like, hate, enjoy, prefer, don’t mind, can’t stand etc. Ex: -I enjoy seeing my children -I don’t mind cooking dinner, if you are tired
NOTICE: There are other verbs that are also followed by a gerund Suggest, finish, start, imagine, give up, go on, stop, etc. Ex: -Mary suggested having a break, and the others agreed -I finished writing that report at 2 am
1.After prepositions About, in, at, by, after, before, with, for, of, etc. Ex: -Do you feel ok about staying here on your own? -Peter is frightened of flying
AS AN ADJECTIVE: 1. We use –ing forms to describe what something or somebody is like Ex: -The film was so boring -The music is interesting -I found the story exciting
2. We use –ing forms before nouns Ex:-Let’s go to the meeting room -I was met by a welcoming party at the airport
