#4 Question 3 Artistic Perception – Processing, analyzing, and responding to sensory information trough the language and skills unique to dance, music, theatre, and visual art. The different classrooms would have key words and/or phrases from the various cultures in order to teach its guests what dialect is spoken and the meaning behind the word or phrase given. The guests visiting the country will get a chance to learn new words so they may use and share the language with friends and family. This activity builds on specific vocabulary and perceptual skills to be successful within the art form. Creative Expression – Creating, performing, and participating in dance, music, theatre, and visual art. The students would perform a certain dance ritual while music is being played in the background to accompany the activity. Guests would learn how a “samba” is performed with such great joy, or how a “tango” has so much strength and concentration to its moves. Students will demonstrate what they have learned through their dance performance and mastery of the steps. This activity gives the students the opportunity to use what they have learned to participate creatively in that form. Historical & Cultural Context – Understanding the historical contributions and cultural dimensions of dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Students will explain the significance of particular holidays, special occasions, and religious rituals. As each event is explained guests can get a better understanding of why they occur and for what reason, or special significance, the event has on the culture. This activity builds student’s understanding of the cultural dimensions of the art discipline. Aesthetic Valuing – Responding to, analyzing, and making judgments about works on dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Students will display the artwork that is celebrated from the culture. Whether the artwork is a picture of a mural, the colors of the country’s flag, or an impressionist painting, all will add life to the overall arrangement of the classroom setting. This activity critically assesses the meaning from the presented works of art. Connections, Relationships & Applications – Connecting and applying what is learned in dance, music, theatre, and visual art to learning in other art forms and subjects and to careers. Students will discuss with their guests how the experience to their country has influenced their views towards the future. The performers might share with the visitors that learning about the particular culture has influenced what career choice they will make; whether the student wants to pursue an artistic career, or to be a music instructor, could be one revelation. This activity builds student’s understanding in career and skills to each arts discipline.
