Draft minutes In attendance: Board members Nick Burnett, Tom Carroll, Chloe Daley, Ashley Evans, Jill Gullett, Justine Heartt, Holly Heyser and Jackie Tualla Guests: ASI Finance Director Lisa Oman, 2009-10 Hornet Editor in Chief Todd Wilson 1. The board unanimously approved the April 17, 2009 minutes. 2. Reports A. Editor in Chief Ashley Evans reported that students were working on the final regular issue of the year, which would include a special anniversary section and apartment guide. Incoming Editor in Chief Todd Wilson reported that he had begun work on the summer issue. B. Faculty Adviser Holly Heyser reported that ad sales for the year would be about $202,000 – less than the $222,000 originally budgeted, but slightly higher than downward-revised predictions, which had been holding steady all semester. The fact that revenues hadn’t worsened was a good sign. She also reported that the dean of the College of Engineering & Computer Science is interested in providing interns who could provide tech support for The State Hornet. C. Budget Advisory Committee Chair Justine Heartt reported that the Budget Advisory Committee had met on May 8 and drafted five-year budget projections. She also shared her draft memo to President Alexander Gonzalez recommending approval of the Hornet’s 2009-10 budget and revised five-year plan. 3. Five-year plan – The board reviewed minor revisions to the five-year plan requested as part of approval at its previous meeting. No action was required. 4. 2009-10 budget – The board approved the proposed 2009-10 budget, which projects flat ad sales of $200,000 and flat student fee revenue of $133,000. The new budget includes funds for modest pay increases for staff and student stipends, as well as new line items for software purchases, web hosting and technical support. 5. 2009-10 meeting schedule – The meeting dates for 2009-10 will be Sept. 28, Oct. 26, Nov. 23, Dec. 7, Feb. 22, March 22, April 26 and May 10. All meetings will be held at 10:30 a.m., location in the University Union to be announced. 6. The board adjourned for 2008-09.
