• A protist is a member of Kingdom Protista, which is very diverse.

But they all share some characteristics: They are eukaryotic. They do not have specialized tissues.

PROTISTS AND FOOD Heterotrophs: Heterotrophs Consumers, Decomposers, Parasites. A parasite invades another organism to get nutrients that it needs. An organism that is invaded by a parasite is a host. Autotrophs: Autotrophs Producers. Some protists produce their own food since they have chloroplasts.

PROTIST REPRODUCTION They may have sexual or asexual reproduction.

Traditional Point of View: Protists include Unicellular, multicellular and colonial organisms. Principal Groups: 1. Algae – Autotroph 2. Unicellular heterotrophs

3. Molds - heterotrophs

Mr. Omura´s point of View: Protists should include only unicellular and colonial organisms. Principal Groups: 1. Unicellular heterotrophs 2. Molds
