T HE KNO L According to Google, KNOL is a unit of knowledge. This is an informal initiative by the students. Every month we integrate the individual contributions coming from students here in our college and make a PDF document & give it a feel of a Magazine. KNOL is a platform where we share our knowledge and learn as other people post their own share of knowledge (knols). Prominent sections of the magazine are: Alumni Speaks Surveys Write-ups Tips-n-Tricks Buy and Sell, etc.

YEAR BO O K ' 09

I

NTRODUC TION

Yearbook is another initiative by the KNOL Team. “A yearbook, also known as an annual, is a book to record, highlight, and commemorate the past year of a school or a book published annually. Virtually all American, Australian and Canadian high schools, most colleges and many elementary and middle schools publish yearbooks.”

COMPILATION

Yearbooks are generally compiled by a student committee, which may or may not be advised by members of the faculty. The committee usually has one or more editors who are responsible for collecting and compiling all of the information to be contained within the book, also deciding the layout and allocation of space for each contributor.

LAYOUT

Layout generally refers to the appearance of the pages, and it may include the following elements: • The Headline: This is a theme that ties the page into the story and draws attention to the reader. • The Story/Copy: Consists of several paragraphs, capturing the highlights of a specific department, sports season, organization, etc., from the past year. Often, yearbook staff members will either send out surveys/interview students, teachers and others for comments. • Photographs: Candid shots of students, suitable to the page's topic and theme. Often, editors seek to include a crosssection of the student body (e.g., classes, races, school involvement, etc.). • Several pages are often used for pages chronicling activities undertaken by students, such as trips abroad, activity trips, sporting and other special events. These pages often consist of photojournals displayed with or without captions. • Sometimes members of a yearbook write editorial and journalistic content about life as a student, current events (local, national and international) and other matters of interest to the peer group.

ADVERTISEMENT PAGES

Many yearbooks gain revenue by including a section of ads from local businesses. Some schools sell advertisements for seniors. Parents, other family members and friends use these ads to congratulate a senior — or group of seniors — for their accomplishments.

DISTRIBUTION

Often, yearbooks are distributed at the end of a school year to allow members to obtain the books and signatures/personal messages from classmates.

R

each of Yearbook & 'T he KNOL'

• Avid readers & contributors in the college. More than 2500 students currently. Ever increasing readers' base. • Growing support from the Alumni of the college & enthusiastic contribution in the Magazine. • Yearbook is a new idea in the state of Uttrakhand with no precedents in any college. • Two copies of Yearbook will be sent to colleges in Uttrakhand. One to the management head and another to the student coordinator. • Thanks to the online nature of our in-house magazine “THE KNOL”, whole of its content is viewable freely anywhere.. anytime. • The audience of the e-magazine as well as the yearbook is the youth aged between 18-25 years & of course their kins. • This yearbook is going to stay with the students for another 20years & even more :-) • In our college we've students coming from almost every part of the country, so this book goes along.
