ProNutra is a Medical Food. Using a proprietary micro-filtration process, ProNutra contains 18.13g of a highly undenatured intact whey protein isolate (WPI). This process of preparation ensures that ProNutra contains a rich source of bioavailable cystine (two molecules of cystine linked by a disulfide bond) to promote positive nitrogen balance for minimizing muscle breakdown and rebuilding lean body mass (LBM). Nitrogen loss occurs in patients with pressure ulcers. ProNutra furnishes all of the amino acids including the very important amino acid cystine, which is required to synthesize glutathione (GSH). GSH is the cell’s major antioxidant and plays a vital role in many cell cycle related events that are needed during tissue repair such as DNA synthesis, protein synthesis and production of growth factors. GSH is also vital for maintaining normal functioning of the immune system.

MIXING OPTIONS For Variety in Flavor: Replace the recommended 6 to 8 ounces of water with your patient's juice preference. After adding the juice, shake vigorously and let the ProNutra rest approximately 5-10 minutes before serving. Enteral Formulas: You may mix ProNutra with enteral formulas or meal replacements such as Ensure, etc. Add 6 to 8 ounces of the enteral formula or meal replacement, shake and let the ProNutra mixture rest 5-10 minutes before serving. Great Ideas: Pudding, cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce and ice cream are good alternative foods to mix with ProNutra. Allow ice cream to soften, before adding ProNutra powder. Simply stir ProNutra into a small serving of pudding, cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce or ice cream and serve after it is sufficiently mixed.
