DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION:ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION is defined as the undesirable change in physical, chemical and biological characteristics of our air, water and noise. Pollution can be natural or man-maid. The agents or substances that cause such changes are termed pollutants.
TYPES OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION:• AIR POLLUTION • WATER POLLUTION • NOISE POLLUTION THE DESCRIPTION OF THESE TYPES OF POLLUTION ARE AS:
AIR POLLUTION
You already know that, air is mainly a mixture of various gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen. These are present in a particular ratio. Whenever there is any imbalance in the ratio of these gases, air pollution is caused.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION • Air pollution affects respiratory system of •

living organisms and causes bronchitis, asthma, lung cancer, pneumonia etc. Due to depletion of ozone layer, UV radiation reaches the earth. UV radiation causes skin cancer, damage to eyes and immune system. Acid rain is also a result of air pollution. This is caused by presence of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur in the air. The green house gases, such as CO2 and Methane, which are produced by burning of fossil fuel, agricultural activities and deforestation, trap the heat radiated from
STEPS FOR REDUCING AIR POLLUTION: • By planting more trees. • By using alternative sources of
energy. • By using catalytic operators in vehicles. • By using high chimneys in houses and factories . • By using electric furnaces in factories and power house.
WATER POLLUTION Water is said to be polluted when there is any physical, biological or chemical change in water quality that adversely affects living organisms or makes water unsuitable for use.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION • Polluted water spreads diseases such as CHOLERA,TYPHOID,JAUNDICE etc.
• The Aquatic life destroys in polluted water.
STEPS FOR REDUCING WATER POLLUTION • Do not waste water and use water
judiously. • Stop deforestation for maintaining water cycle. • By reforestation. • By building dams and tanks in lower areas to prevent water blocking. • By harvesting of rain water.
NOISE POLLUTION The unwanted voice which is not soft and harmonious, is known as NOISE. The presence of loud voice is only NOISE POLLUTION.
HARMFUL EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION • The worst effect of noise pollution is Deafness. • It raises the heart beat. • It also effects pupil of eyes, thus causing Night Blindness or Colour Blindness.
STEPS FOR REDUCING NOISE POLLUTION • All vehicles should move without blowing horn too many times. • Use of loud – speakers should not be allowed hear the schools and hospitals . • Airport must be constructed sufficiently away from the cities. If we follow all these measures. We will certainly reduce noise pollution. Any kinds of pollution has its bad effects, so, pollution should be controlled.
