1.Conception Phase • This is the phase during which idea germinates. • The idea needs to be put in black and white and given some shape before they can be considered and compared with the idea. • The idea needs to be examined in the light of objective and constraints and what finally becomes acceptable may form the future project.
1.Conception Phase Contd….. • In this phase, it is not supposed to considered as to how the project will be implemented. • A well conceived idea may go a long way for successful implementation and operation of the project. • Idea may undergo changes as the project progresses.
2.Definition Phase • In this phase, The idea conceived during the conception phase will be developed . • It involves a document the describes the project in sufficient detail covering all the aspects necessary for the customer /or financial institutions to make their minds on the project idea.
2.Definition Phase
Contd…
The area to be examined during this definition phase..• Civil engineering work:
• Raw Material: Evaluation of raw material. • Plant size /capacity: Enumeration of plant capacity. • Location and site: description of location supported by map • Technology/Process selection: Description of technology, reasons for selection • Project layout: selection of optimum layout. • Electrical and instrumentation work: Listing the feature of broad Electrical and instrumentation items
•
• •
•
Description of civil work and cost estimates Utilities-Fuel, power, water: Description of Utilities in terms of properties, source, unit Cost and availability Manpower and organisational Pattern Financial analysis: Total investment Cost, sources of finance, Total production cost Implementation schedule:
2.Definition Phase
Contd…
• Clears the ambiguities and uncertainty associated with the projects during conception phase. • Establishes risk involved in going ahead with the project
Planning and organizing phase • This phase can effectively starts after definition phase but in practice it starts much earlier • some organisation prepares project execution plan to mark this phase
In this phase organisation deals with the following, and in most cases take necessary actions for realization of the same. • • • • • • • • • • •
Project infrastructure and enabling services. System design and basic engineering package Organisation and manpower Schedules and budget Licensing and governmental clearances Finance Systems and procedures Identification of project manager Purchase condition and contracts Site preparation and investigation Construction resource and materials
4.Implementation phase • It is the phase during which something starts growing in the field and people for the first time sees the project. • All the techniques of project management are applied during this phase. • This phase is more or less the whole project. • This phase has a high need of coordination and because of peculiarities. • Meticulous planning ,high pressure management and control is required during this phase.
5 Clean-up Phase • This is a transition phase in which the hardware is build with the active involvement of various agencies is physically handed over to different agency who was not so far involved earlier. • In this phase, Drawing, Documents, files, operations and maintenance manuals are catalogued and handed over to the customer. • The important task is planning of staff and worker involved in execution of the project
