Department of Architecture Hindustan College of Engineering Architecture Design V Designing of Shopping Mall Introduction The growth rate of Indian cities is tremendously increasing in all aspects like economic, socio and cultural trends. Cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Banglore, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai have become hyperactive. The life styles of people in these cities are changing according to the need of the day. Need and demand necessitate growth of certain typologies in cities like IT Parks, High Rise Apartments, Health Care, Institutions, Shopping Malls etc Shopping malls facilitates variety of shops, food courts, theatre, recreational and entertainment activities. Shopping malls have become one of urban hubs of any cities. Success of a shopping mall depends on various parameters like accessibility, stimulation and experience of pleasant shopping environment, most important availability of enough / ample parking space. Design Consideration  Designing for Shopper’s experience  Shopper’s Behavior and Buying habits  Visual Impact  Design consideration for physically challenged people  New trends in shopping mall design like Media Architecture etc. Shopping Mall A shopping mall (or simply mall) is building or set of buildings that contain a variety of stores, with interconnecting walkways enabling visitors to easily walk from store to store. The mall is often enclosed.

Shopping malls are most usually referred to as shopping centers, shopping precincts or sometimes shopping arcades. The term shopping mall is usually applied to enclosed retail structures, while shopping centre refers to open air retail complexes.
