PrioBio to Power Arriva Arriva Portugal is to run 240 buses on PrioBio – the biodiesel recently launched in the UK by FCL Biofuels. The B30 blend - a mixture of 30 per cent biodiesel and 70 per cent mineral diesel - will lead to a net reduction of up to 20 per cent in the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by Arriva’s fleet. The deal, signed by Prio SA during the September 2007 European Week of Mobility, was witnessed by Portuguese transport minister, Ana Paula Vitorino. Ms Vitorino emphasised the importance of this agreement in helping Portugal to meet the targets set by the European Union for all fuel sold to contain at least ten per cent biofuel by 2010. FCL Biofuels is looking to introduce PrioBio blends into the UK market early in 2008. Colin Walker, managing director at FCL Biofuels, says, “Environmentalists should take heart in seeing a large, multi-national transport group taking the green initiative. Businesses, meanwhile, should see how this deal stacks up commercially, especially with oil prices on the way up.”
