1. A manufacturer of TV sets produced 600 units in the third year and 700 units in the seventh year. Assuming that the increase in production every year the same, find what was (i) total production in 7 years (ii) the production in the 10th year? 2. Two posts were offered to a man. In the first one, the starting salary was Rs 120 per month and annual increment was Rs 8. In the second one, the salary commenced at Rs 85 per month, but the annual increment was Rs 12. He decided to accept the post which would give more earnings in the first 20 years of service. What post was acceptable to him? Justify the answer. 9. Firm A starts producing 400 units and decreases production by 50 units annually. Firm B starts by producing 250 units and increases production by 25 units annually. Assuming that both the firms grow/ decay in an arithmetic series, find the following (I) In which year will both produce the same amount (II) When will firm A produce zero output? (III) What will be production of firm B in the year when firm A produce nothing? 10. A machine depreciates by 8% of its value at the beginning of a year. If the machine was purchased for Rs 15000 what is the minimum number of complete years at the end of which the worth of machine will not exceed 2/5 of its original value 11. A tractor is purchased for Rs 45000 and sold as a scrap for Rs 5000 after 10 years. Find the rate of depreciation of the tractor 12. For three consecutive months a person deposited same amount of money on the first day of each month in a small savings fund. The three successive amounts in the

deposits, the total value of which is Rs 65, form a GP. If the two extreme amounts be multiplied each by 3 and the middle by 5, the products form an AP. Find the amounts in the first and second deposits. 13. Gold worth Rs 1000 has been preserved by a family for 70 years. Find the amount they would have got as interest for this period if this gold is sold and the amount (Rs 1000) was invested as a fixed deposit at a rate near about 10% compound interest, supposing at the rate of interest the amount gets doubled in every seven years period 14. ABC Company LTD has earmarked a fund Rs 1 crore towards the payment of remuneration to a consultant for his advisory services rendered during a month. His pay package for one month is as follow: He charges RS 1 for the first day, Rs 2 for the 2nd day, Rs 4 for the 3rd day, Rs 8 for the 4th day and so on. What is the total remuneration for that one month? Can the company afford to pay his remuneration? 15. The second term of a HP is 1/5 and 9th term is 1/19. Determine the series 16.
