Present simple and the Present Continuous
The simple present expresses daily habits or usual activities, as in examples 1 and 2: 1. Robert leaves for school every morning at 8:00. 2. I usually call my girlfriend in the evening. The simple present expresses general statements of fact, as in examples 3 to 6. The present continuous expresses an activity that is in continuing progress ( is occurring, is happening) right now, at this moment. The event is in progress at the time the speaker is saying the sentence. The event began in the past, is in progress now, and will probably continue into the future. See examples 79.
