Abstracts for Workshops: Atawhai Playcentre - Anthea Lees and Nicky Nicholson "This is my story" - Enhancing learning using modern technology: Atawhai's ICT experience, a journey for children and adults

This presentation looks at Atawhai Playcentre's journey with ICT's and how they are used to enhance childrenʼs learning. It will cover technologies such as digital cameras, photostories and digital microscopes and how they are used by both children and adults. Teachers will have a hands on opportunity to use the digital microscopes. We will look specifically at how these technologies fit in our mixed age (0-6years) free play setting and how both the children and supervision team use technologies to record learning. Atawhai Playcentre is currently participating in the MOE funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme.

Campus Creche Pre-school & Rotorua Girls High School Child Care - Sally Johnson & Margaret Jones Attitude plus pen and paper: Two teachers’ personal journeys of ICT discovery

Be prepared to be inspired by the journey of two mature early childhood teachers, one who two years ago had no desire to touch a computer, the other who in order to do her assignments, got her son to set up Word so she needed to do little more than turn the computer on and off. Hear

how these teachers kept handwritten notebooks of ʻhow tosʼ as they went on a journey of selfdiscovery and learning, about ICTs, overcoming their nervousness through professional development and peer support. See how they are now exploring ICT and have become the inspired learners that they are today. Sally and Margaret will also share ways in which their newfound confidence has enabled them to use ICT successfully with the children they teach. Campus Creche Pre-school and Rotorua Girls High School Child Care are currently participating in the MOE funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme. Next Generation Childcare Company Ltd - Lorraine Geurts, Rachel Jones, Maree Mosalen & Bernette Peters Wow, You'll be proud to know I'm online: e-portfolios in early childhood

The use of e-portfolios have greatly contributed to increased dialogue and shared meaning making between children, parents, families and teachers at Next Generation Childcare. Parents and whānau are contributing to the curriculum more and more and are deeply engaged in their childʼs learning. Teachers, children and families are learning with and alongside each other, navigating their way online and exploring the complexities of ICT. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the journey of the children, teachers and families at Next Generation Childcare and the impact e-portfolios are having on the community of learners and consider the potential for these in their own contexts. Next Generation Childcare is currently participating in the MOE Funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme. Geraldine Kindergarten - Tracey Nelson & Haidee Walsh " Do you know Gael that I'm a perseverer. Sarah's not, she's a risk taker."- Habits Of Mind in Early Childhood

Hazel is four years old and already confidently communicating with clarity her perception of herself and her peers as teachers and learners. We have adapted Art Costaʼs “Habits of Mind” (www.habits-of-mind.net/whatare.htm) for our early childhood environment. In this workshop we will tell the story of how the Habits of Mind have become embedded into our daily practice at our kindergarten. We will then facilitate a discussion about how the habits of mind can become part of your practice. Geraldine Kindergarten are participants in the Ministry of Education funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme. Greenhithe Kindergarten - Margaret May & Chris Dowdell Children as innovators in self-assessment using ICT We will discuss the ways in which the children we are working with are using our ICT tools to revisit, refine and deepen their learning experiences. We will address what self assessment through ICT tools such as Comic Life and I Can Animate, means to us and how we see this happening in action within our Kindergarten environment. We will share how our children are 'leading the way' as we upskill ourselves to facilitate, support, extend and enhance the myriad of

possibilities that ICT tools offer. Greenhithe Kindergarten is currently participating in the MOE funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme. Comic Life is PC and MAC based computers. I Can Animate is for Mac based Platforms.

Rototuna Early Education Centre & Sunshine Kindergarten - Rochelle Wolvers & Lisa Grey Photostory 3 in action in ECE: Experiences from kindergarten and childcare We are two teachers, one from a kindergarten in Wellington and one from an all day care and education centre in Hamilton who have discovered the multiple benefits - including literacy, assessment, strengthening relationships with families - of a simple, downloadable programme called Photo Story 3 (for PCs only). This session will be a presentation of the different ways we have used this programme with the children followed by a hands-on workshop in which participants will have an opportunity to make their own photo story. To make this experience meaningful please bring a few of your own digital photos. Sunshine Kindergarten and Rototuna Early Education Centre are currently participating in the MOE funded ECE ICT Professional Learning Pilot Programme. This is an equipment based workshop for PC Platforms
