Praise and Worship

A study of the Lost Art of Communication with God

Worship • Joh 4:21-24 KJVR Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. (22) Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. (23) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. (24) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Worship • True worship bears fruit and is pleasing to God. • Before we can really study worship, we have to take a careful look at our lives, the lives we intend to put into Gods presence. • It also requires an understanding of how God looks at us

Worship • Isa 29:13 AMP And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips but remove their hearts and minds far from Me, and their fear and reverence for Me are a commandment of men that is learned by repetition [without any thought as to the meaning],

Worship • Worship is an incredibly awesome thing that God looks on very diligently, it is something extremely dear to him and he does not mince words about people who worship without understanding. • We often make the mistake of trying to fit things into a specific mold or pattern. Worship is not that way.

Worship • 1 Sa 16:7 MSG But GOD told Samuel, "Looks aren't everything. Don't be impressed with his looks and stature. I've already eliminated him. GOD judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; GOD looks into the heart."

Worship • Truth is based on Gods view point, not ours. • In order to be in truth, we have to take a more careful look at ourselves. • In order to look at ourselves, we need help.

Worship • Joh 16:12-14 MSG "I still have many things to tell you, but you can't handle them now. (13) But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won't draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

Worship • In order for us to worship, it will require the Holy Spirit. We have to rely on the Holy Spirit to – Take us by the hand – Guide us into truth – Make sense out of everything that is happening – Make sense out of the word

Worship • In order to worship in truth, it will require the Holy Spirit to – Help us understand all associated with the scripture and – Everything associated with the changes that must occur in us

Worship • Psa 51:1-2 KJVR Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (2) Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

Worship • Two important words – iniquity and sin What do they mean?

Worship • Sin (Strong’s) khat-taw-aw', khat-tawth' • From H2398; an offence (sometimes habitual sinfulness), and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, or expiation; also (concretely) an offender: - punishment (of sin), purifying (-fication for sin), sin (-ner, offering). • Notice that SIN is both the event and the purifying from – the same word means both,

Worship • Iniquity • Strong’s ‛avon ̂ ̂ ‛avon ̂ ̂ • aw-vone', aw-vone' • From H5753; perversity, that is, (moral) evil: - fault, iniquity, mischief, punishment (of iniquity),

• It is a completely different word. Notice the lack of purification

Worship • Iniquity from Vine’s – In Arabic this verb appears with the meaning " to bend" or "to deviate from the way.“ – "Iniquity" as an offense to God's holiness is punishable. The individual is warned that the Lord punishes man's transgression: – Serious as "iniquity" is in the covenantal relationship between the Lord and His people, the people are reminded that He is a living God who willingly forgives "iniquity…but that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation" (Exo_34:7)

Worship • Are you seeing that iniquity is something quite different from sin? • Continuing in Vine’s Isaiah 53 teaches that God put upon Jesus Christ our "iniquities" (Isa_53:6), that He having been bruised for our "iniquities"

Worship • 'Awen [iniquity] in a deeper sense characterizes the way of life of those who are without God: "For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail" (Isa_32:6).

Worship • In short – iniquity is a hidden sin, a believed lie • How is it possible for anyone to be forgiven of a sin they don’t know about?

Worship • 2Co 11:1-4 MSG Will you put up with a little foolish aside from me? Please, just for a moment. (2) The thing that has me so upset is that I care about you so much--this is the passion of God burning inside me! I promised your hand in marriage to Christ, presented you as a pure virgin to her husband. (3) And now I'm afraid that exactly as the Snake seduced Eve with his smooth patter, you are being lured away from the simple purity of your love for Christ. (4) It seems that if someone shows up preaching quite another Jesus than we preached-different spirit, different message [a lie] -- you put up with him quite nicely.

Worship • There are consequences according to the word for believing a lie. • 2Th 2:11-12 AMP Therefore God sends upon them a misleading influence, a working of error and a strong delusion to make them believe what is false, (12) In order that all may be judged and condemned who did not believe in [who refused to adhere to, trust in, and rely on] the Truth, but [instead] took pleasure in unrighteousness

Worship • It is important that we sift out the lies from the truth under the guidance of the holy spirit!

Worship • Heb 2:1-3 MSG It's crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we've heard so that we don't drift off. (2) If the old message delivered by the angels was valid and nobody got away with anything, (3) do you think we can risk neglecting this latest message, this magnificent salvation? First of all, it was delivered in person by the Master, then accurately passed on to us by those who heard it from him.

Worship • What does all of this have to do with worship?

Worship • Mal 1:1-4 GNB This is the message that the LORD gave Malachi to tell the people of Israel. (2) The LORD says to his people, "I have always loved you." But they reply, "How have you shown your love for us?" The LORD answers, "Esau and Jacob were brothers, but I have loved Jacob and his descendants, (3) and have hated Esau and his descendants. I have devastated Esau's hill country and abandoned the land to jackals."

Worship • You cannot show a disdain for the things of God by believing a lie and then hope that God will bless what you do. • If you do, you have made yourself a follower of Esau – more interested in what makes you happy and not what makes God happy.

Worship • Rev 3:14-19 KJVR And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; (15) I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. (16) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Worship • (17) Because thou sayest {BELIEVE A LIE}, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: (18) I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Worship • (19) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent

Worship • The first example of worship • Gen 4:4-7 GNB Then Abel brought the first lamb born to one of his sheep, killed it, and gave the best parts of it as an offering. The LORD was pleased with Abel and his offering, (5) but he rejected Cain and his offering. Cain became furious, and he scowled in anger.

Worship • (6) Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why that scowl on your face? (7) If you had done the right thing, you would be smiling; but because you have done evil, sin is crouching at your door. It wants to rule you, but you must overcome it."

Worship • Do you believe that every offering you bring is acceptable? • If you do, then you will be angered when what you bring is rejected, • Why is it rejected? Because you believed the wrong thing. Remember Is 29.13

Worship • Jesus never attacked the Pharisees for their lack of observances, but because they taught what they believed to be true even though it was a lie. • Sin never bothered Jesus, lies did.

Worship • Joh 8:42-44 AMP Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me and respect Me and welcome Me gladly, for I proceeded (came forth) from God [out of His very presence]. I did not even come on My own authority or of My own accord (as self-appointed); but He sent Me. (43) Why do you misunderstand what I say? It is because you are unable to hear what I am saying. [You cannot bear to listen to My message; your ears are shut to My teaching.]

• BELIEVING A LIE WILL CLOSE YOUR EARS TO THE TRUTH!

Worship • Only the Holy Spirit is capable of revealing the lies and taking you to Jesus • Worship requires you to communicate with God and unless you open yourself up to the Holy Spirit you will forever be closed to hear what he has to say. • If you cannot hear, how will you worship?

Worship • If you choose to ignore what the Holy Spirit is teaching then how will you ever know Truth? • If you hear the Holy Spirit calling to you and you ignore the call, then you are in rebellion – in the word, known as transgression.

Worship • Psa 51:3-6 KJVR For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. (4) Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (5) Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. (6) Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

Worship • If you desire worship in truth, then you will desire to be clean. To be clean is to be pure before Him. • Mat 5:8 MSG "You're blessed when you get your inside world--your mind and heart--put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

Worship • Joh 3:20-21 MKJV For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. (21) But he who practices truth comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

Worship • Do you desire to know God in worship? The you must desire a clean heart, a heart purged from iniquity.

• Without this, there is no hope of knowing Christ. Christ will chasten, he will hurt, he will cause us to see our own painful selves, but what is the reward.

Worship • Heb 12:11-12 KJVR Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. (12) Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees
