NUCLEAR THREAT: THE FOURTH WORLD WAR WILL NEVER HAPPEN
• On May 31, 1945, sixteen men met in the office of Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson. The sixteen men were there to make decisions about a weapon the average American had never heard of--the atom bomb. They picked future targets for "The Bomb." They were not talking about "just another weapon." What they were discussing was "a new relationship of man to the universe," as said by Stimson. Humankind, the Secretary seemed to be saying, was at the most critical turning point in its entire recorded history.
ORIGION AND DEVELOPMENT… 1896: Antoine Henri Becquerel discovered radioactivity in uranium 1902 :Marie and Pierre Curie isolated a radioactive metal called radium 1995:Albert Einstein published his theory of relativity. 1939:Albert Einstein wrote a letter to the American President" it may become possible to set up nuclear chain reactions in a large mass of uranium... This new phenomenon would also lead to the construction of bombs...
…..A single bomb of this type, carried by boat or exploded in a port, might very well destroy the whole port together with some of the surrounding territory.“ In later years Einstein deplored "I made one great mistake in my life” • 1945: American airplane, dropped the first atomic bomb ever used in warfare on Hiroshima, Japan,
THE NUCLEAR AGE… The Nuclear Age has given birth to shapes and forms that have become icons for modern society. • Nuclear fission and the chain reaction: An atomic bomb gets its destructive power from a sudden release of energy, created by nuclear fission. • Nuclear fusion: Most modern nuclear devices are hydrogen bombs, also known as thermonuclear weapons.
THE NUCLEAR POWERS… • • • • • • • • •
The United States, Russia, China, Great Britain, France, Israel, India, Pakistan, North Korea
THE REAL POWER… • Russia and U.S. has 90% of total world's strategic nuclear weapons • Russia is the only nation which can now, or in the foreseeable future, completely destroy the United States • China could attack The U.S. with no more than a couple dozen warheads, and this is unlikely to change anytime soon • North Korea might be able to attack this country with perhaps a half-dozen nuclear warheads • Russia threatens this country with an attack of more than 1,500 nuclear warheads.
ACCINDENTAL NUCLEAR WAR… • Danger of a nuclear-armed North Korea and possibly Iran • The growing power of China as the ultimate threat • Danger of accidental nuclear war with Russia However, this only means that the danger of accidental nuclear war in any given year is very small, but not nonexistent.
ASSYMETRIC SITUATION… 1.About 50% of the United States nuclear arsenal on alert The United States also has a nuclear force of bombers. About 85% of Russia's nuclear weapons on alert. 2 .To lack of funds, Russia's early warning system of satellites and radars are operating far below standard, and thus are not very reliable. 3. Both the United State and Russia can launch a surprise attack with their ICBMs, but only the U.S. can launch a surprise attack with its submarine SLBMs.
• Russian generals have more autonomy from their political leaders than do American generals. • And most dangerous of all, the Russians, unlike the Americans, have a computercontrolled semiautomatic launch system called Perimeter • The danger of an accidental launch should be apparent to all. A simple mechanical and/or electrical malfunction could start a nuclear war. The danger is even greater because this system is twenty years old and no longer fully reliable. The Russians are aware of the danger and that is why the system has never been turned on
SMALL CHANCES… • All above illustrates that the danger of accidental nuclear war, though obviously very small on a yearly basis (otherwise it would already have occurred), is very real. Unless this danger is reduced to zero, the odds of accidental nuclear war will slowly but surely accumulate upwards to an eventual certainty. If nothing changes, and at this point there is no indication that it will, then sooner or later the world will experience its first nuclear war.
INDIAN NUCLEAR STRATEGY… • India demonstrated its nuclear capability on May 18, 1974, • It was China’s growing assertion of power in South and South-East Asia. • China has been a potential security threat ever since its aggression against India in October 1962 • China’s ambition to emerge as the Asian superpower has made it assert itself in Asia.
SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEM… • The solution can be implemented both easily and quickly and at no financial cost or loss of security. The solution can be stated in three words: nuclear strategic stability… • LOW Strategy: LOW. launch under attack strategy, but it is the same thing. Simply put, this strategy mandates that once either nation's early warning satellites and radars have determined that a nuclear attack is underway.
• for the world to be safe, both the United States and Russia must abandon their current counter-force nuclear strategy. • The greater strategic stability becomes, the less becomes any advantage of either nation for launching a first strike, and thus the less either side would fear a first strike by the other side • Secure in the deep abyss of the ocean depths, nuclear submarines, with a virtual limitless fuel supply, • Eliminate all first-strike weapons.
CONCLUSION… • The only way whole world can survive is if we enter into discussions with all and attempt to find common ground. All peoples on this planet have families that they love and care for. We all have other common needs such as food, shelter, medical care and education. Only this thinking can save the world • because third world war would be a nuclear • Only,………..and result is well known.
